Subject: Bedknife deflects upwards in the center.

The front edge of the bedknife may deflect upwards a very slight amount, if the nut on

the bedbar pivot bolt is over-tightened. The amount of this deflection is insignificant and

not known to cause any detrimental effects, however it may be noticed during setup,

especially directly after spin grinding the reel.

If the deflection is a concern, use the bedbar installation information as outlined in the

following assembly procedures below. The Flex 21 is originally equipped with a jam nut

that has no locking feature. To use these procedures on the Flex 21, replace the

original jam nut with Lock Nut (107-9045). This nut is available at no charge from your

local Toro distributor for any Flex 21 Cutting Unit identified in this bulletin.

1) Assemble the cutting unit as identified in the illustration below and in the Service Manual.

2) After tightening each bedbar pivot bolt to 190-240 in–lbs (22-27 Nm), lightly tighten the Lock

Nuts (item 8) until the outside washers are held securely in position but still able to be turned

by hand after the nuts are tightened. It is normal for the washers inside next to the bedbar to

be loose at this point.
