Turntheoillterclockwiseuntiltherubbergasket
contactsthelteradapter,thentightenthelter
anadditional1/2turn.Donotovertighten.
12.Checktheoillevel.
13.Slowlyaddadditionaloiltobringtheleveltothe
fullmarkonthedipstick.
14.Replacethellcap.
ServicingtheSparkPlugs
ServiceInterval:Every200hours—Checkthespark
plugs.
Ensurethattheairgapbetweenthecenterandside
electrodesiscorrectbeforeinstallingeachsparkplug.
Useasparkplugwrenchforremovingandinstalling
thesparkplugsandagappingtool/feelergaugeto
checkandadjusttheairgap.Installnewsparkplugs
ifnecessary.

RemovingtheSparkPlugs
1.RefertoPreparingtheMachineforMaintenance
(page17).
2.Pullthewiresoffthesparkplugs.
3.Cleanaroundthesparkplugs.
4.Removebothsparkplugsandmetalwashers.
CheckingtheSparkPlugs
1.Lookatthecenterofbothsparkplugs(Figure
16).Ifyouseelightbrownorgrayonthe
insulator,theengineisoperatingproperly.A
blackcoatingontheinsulatorusuallymeansthe
aircleanerisdirty.
Important:Donotcleanthesparkplugs.
Alwaysreplacethesparkplugswhenthey
haveablackcoating,wornelectrodes,an
oilylm,orcracks.

Toensurepropercooling,keepthegrassscreen,
coolingns,andotherexternalsurfacesoftheengine
cleanatalltimes.
Removetheblowerhousingandothercooling
shrouds.Cleanthecoolingnsandexternalsurfaces
asnecessary.Ensurethatthecoolingshroudsare
installedbeforeoperation.
Note:Operatingtheenginewithablockedgrass
screen,dirtyorpluggedcoolingns,orcooling
shroudsremoved,willdamagetheenginedueto
overheating.
