6.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery
compartment.Positionthebatterysothatthe
terminalsaretotheinside.
7.Attachthepositivecable(redcablefromthe
ignitionswitch)tothepositive(+)terminal.
8.Attachthenegativecable(blackcablefromthe
engineblock)tothenegative(–)terminalofthe
battery.
Important:Ensurethatthereisclearance
betweenthebatterycablesandthespeed
selectorlever.Verifythatthespeedselector
leverdoesnotcomewithin1inch(2.5cm)of
eitherbatterycablewhenitismovedthrough
itsentirerangeofmotion.Donotwireor
tapethenegativeandpositivebatterycables
together.
9.Coattheterminalsandmountingfastenerswith
petroleumjellytopreventcorrosion.
10.Installthebatterycoverandsecureitwiththe
springs.
ServicingtheBattery
ServiceInterval:Every25hours—Checkthebattery
cableconnections.
Thebatterycablesmustbetightontheterminalsto
providegoodelectricalcontact.
WARNING
Incorrectbatterycableroutingcoulddamage
themachineandcables,causingsparks.
Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto
explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
Alwaysdisconnectthenegative(black)
batterycablebeforedisconnectingthe
positive(red)cable.
Alwaysconnectthepositive(red)battery
cablebeforeconnectingthenegative
(black)cable.
Ifcorrosionoccursattheterminals,disconnectthe
cables(negative(–)cablerst)andscrapeclamps
andterminalsseparately.Connectthecables(positive
(+)cablerst)andcoattheterminalswithpetroleum
jelly.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshort
againstmetaltractionunitcomponents,
causingsparks.Sparkscancausethebattery
gassestoexplode,resultinginpersonal
injury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,
donotallowthebatteryterminalstotouch
anymetalpartsofthemachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsofthe
machine.
