1.RefertoPreparingtheMachineforMaintenance
(page17).
2.Storethemachineinaclean,drygarageor
storagearea.
3.Washgrass,dirt,andgrimefromtheexternal
partsoftheentiremachine,especially
cylinder-headnsoftheengineandblower
housing.
Important:Youcanwashthemachinewith
milddetergentandwater.Donotpressure
washthemachine.Avoidexcessiveuseof
water,especiallyneartheengine.
Note:Runthemachinewiththeengineathigh
idlefor2to5minutesafterwashing.
4.Servicetheaircleaner;refertoServicingtheAir
Cleaner(page18).
5.Changetheengineoil;refertoChangingthe
EngineOilandFilter(page19).
6.Checkthetirepressure;refertoCheckingthe
TirePressure(page23).
7.Replaceanydamagedtinesorbrushhalves;
refertoReplacingtheFlexTipRakeTine(page
27)orReplacingtheBrushHalf(page28).
8.Removethespark-plugwire;refertoServicing
theSparkPlugs(page20).
9.Removethesparkplugsandchecktheir
condition.
10.Withthesparkplugsremovedfromtheengine,
pour2tablespoonsofengineoilintoeach
spark-plugholeandusethestartertocrankthe
enginetodistributetheoilinsidethecylinder.
11.Installthesparkplugs,butdonotinstallthe
wiresonthesparkplugs.
12.Tightenallfasteners.Repairorreplaceanypart
thatisdamagedormissing.
13.Spraylightoilmistonthecoringheadbearings
(crankanddamperlinks).
14.Paintallscratchedorbaremetalsurfaces.Paint
isavailablefromyourauthorizedTorodistributor.
15.Coverthemachinetoprotectitandkeepitclean.
StoringtheMachine
Long-Term
Ifyouarestoringthemachineformorethan30days,
prepareitasfollows:
1.RefertoPreparingtheMachineforMaintenance
(page17).
2.Addapetroleum-basedstabilizer/conditionerto
fuelinthetank.Followmixinginstructionsfrom
stabilizermanufacture.
Important:Donotuseanalcohol-based
stabilizer(ethanolormethanol).
Note:Afuelstabilizer/conditionerismost
effectivewhenmixedwithfreshfuelandused
atalltimes.
3.Runtheenginetodistributeconditionedfuel
throughthefuelsystemfor5minutes.
4.Shutofftheengine,allowittocoolanddrain
thefueltank.
5.Starttheengineandrunituntilitstops.
6.Choketheengine.Startandruntheengineuntil
itdoesnotstart.
7.Recycleanydisposedfuelaccordingtolocal
codes.
Important:Donotstorefuelcontaining
stabilizer/conditionerlongerthanthe
durationrecommendedbythefuel-stabilizer
manufacturer.
8.Removethebatteryterminalsfromthebattery
postsandremovethebatteryfromthemachine.
9.Cleanthebattery,terminals,andpostswitha
wirebrushandbakingsodasolution.
10.Coatthecableterminalsandbatterypostswith
greaseorpetroleumjellytopreventcorrosion.
11.Slowlychargethebatteryevery60daysfor24
hourstopreventleadsulfationofthebattery.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses
thatcanexplode.
Donotsmokenearthebatteryandkeep
sparksandamesawayfromit.
12.Ensurethatthebatteryisfullychargedto
preventfreezing.Thespecicgravityofafully
chargedbatteryis1.26to1.30.
13.Storethebatteryeitherontheshelforonthe
machine.Leavethecablesdisconnectedifitis
storedonthemachine.Storethebatteryina
coolatmospheretoavoidrapidlossofcharge
fromthebattery.
