Safety
Hazardcontrolandaccidentpreventionare
dependentupontheawareness,concern,and
propertrainingofthepersonnelinvolvedinthe
operation,transport,maintenance,andstorageof
themachine.Improperuseormaintenanceofthe
machinecanresultininjuryordeath.Toreduce
thepotentialforinjuryordeath,complywiththe
followingsafetyinstructions.

SafeOperatingPractices
SupervisorsResponsibilities
Ensureoperatorsarethoroughlytrainedandfamiliar
withtheOperator’sManualandalldecalsonthe
machine.
Establishyourownspecialproceduresandwork
rulesforunusualoperatingconditions(e.g.,slopes
toosteepformachineoperation,adverseweather
conditions,etc.).
BeforeOperating
Read,understandandfollowtheinstructionsin
theOperator’sManualandonthemachinebefore
starting.Becomefamiliarwithallcontrolsand
knowhowtostopquickly.Afreereplacement
manualisavailablebycontactingTorodirectlyat
www.Toro.com.
NEVERallowchildrentooperatethemachine.
NEVERallowadultstooperatethemachinewithout
properinstruction.Onlytrainedoperatorswhohave
readthismanualshouldoperatethismachine.
NEVERoperatethemachinewhileunderthe
inuenceofdrugsoralcohol.
Becomefamiliarwiththecontrolsandknowhowto
stopthetowvehicleenginequickly.
Keepallshields,safetydevices,anddecalsinplace.
Ifashield,safetydevice,ordecalbecomesdamaged,
malfunctioning,orillegible,repairorreplaceit
beforeoperationiscommenced.Alsotightenloose
nutsandboltstoensuremachineisinsafeoperating
condition.
Alwayswearsubstantialshoes.Donotoperate
machinewhilewearingsandals,tennisshoes,or
sneakersorwhenbarefoot.Donotwearloose-tting
clothingthatcouldgetcaughtinmovingpartsand
possiblycauseinjury.Wearingsafetyglasses,safety
shoes,longpants,andahelmetisadvisableand
requiredbysomelocalordinancesandinsurance
regulations.
Donotalterthisequipmentinanymannerwhich
maycausehazardousconditions.
Safetyinterlockswitchesarefortheoperators
protection.Disconnectedormalfunctioningsafety
interlockswitchescouldallowthemachinetooperate
inanunsafemannerandmaycausepersonalinjury
Donotdisconnectthesafetyinterlockswitches.
Checktheoperationoftheswitchesdailytobe
suretheinterlocksystemisoperatingcorrectly.
Ifaswitchismalfunctioning,replaceitbefore
operatingthemachine.
WhileOperating
Rotatingpartscancauseseriouspersonalinjury.
Keephandsandfeetawayfromsweeperreelwhile
machineisrunning.Keephands,feet,hair,and
clothingawayfromallmovingpartstoprevent
injury.NEVERoperatethemachinewithcovers,
shrouds,orguardsremoved.
Don’ttakeaninjuryrisk!Whenapersonorpet
appearsunexpectedlyinornearthesweepingarea,
stopsweeping.Carelessoperation,combinedwith
terrainangles,ricochets,ormissingordamaged
guards,canleadtothrownobjectinjuries.Donot
resumesweepinguntilareaiscleared.
NEVERcarrypassengers.
ALWAYSlooktotherearofmachinebeforebacking
upandassurenooneisbehindthemachine.
Operatormustbeskilledandtrainedinhowtodrive
onhillsides.Failuretousecautiononslopesor
hillsmaycauselossofcontrol,possiblyresultingin
personalinjuryordeath.
WhenusingaWorkmanasatowvehicle,itis
recommendedtoput500poundsofweightintothe
vehiclebedwhenoperatingonanyslopes.
Lightningcancausesevereinjuryordeath.If
lightningisseenorthunderisheardinthearea,do
notoperatethemachine;seekshelter.
Tipovercancauseseriousinjuryordeath.
NEVERoperateonsteepslopes.
Sweepslopesupanddown,neveracrosstheface.
Whengoinguphillordownhill,donotstopor
startsuddenly.
Stayalertforholesintheterrainorotherhidden
hazards.Toavoidtippingorlossofcontrol,do
notdriveclosetoaditch,creek,ordropoff.
