25. Measure countershaft end play. Rotate one of the
axle shafts back and forth to take up all back lash. Rotat-
ing the shaft in one direction will pull the shaft and bear-
ing away from the snap ring. Rotate axle shaft in this
direction, then measure space between the snap ring
and shim (set) with a feeler gauge. Make sure shim (set)
is held against the bearing during the measurement.
End play should be 0.00 to 0.0039 inch (0.0 to 0.10 mm)
(Fig. 115).
IMPORTANT:If end play is too large, replace shim/
shim set (item 2) in steps 22.
and 23. with thicker
shims to correct the problem.
