Subject: Leakage at Lash Adjusting Nut of Steering Gear.
Interference between Pitman Arm (87-9640) and the Steering Gear Casing due to
machining variances of the tapered spline connection may cause the Lash Adjustment Nut
to loosen and create a hydraulic fluid leak.
If this issue exists on your unit, the Pitman Arm may be removed and modified to provide
clearance as demonstrated below. Be sure to use the torque values listed below during
assembly and installation. Assistance with this repair is available through your local Toro
distributor.
Note: Torque Retaining Nut to 180-210 ft-lbs (25-29 Kgm)
Steering Gear
(87-1500)
Lash Adjustment Nut (28-8220)
Tighten to 20 ft/lbs (2.8 Kgm)
