Engine Does Not Shut Down When
Accelerator Pedal Is Released
Product: Workman MDX June 22, 2010
Affected Units:
Models:
07273
07273TC
Serial Numbers:
280000101 – 310000197
280000101 – 310000268
Situation:
During normal operation, when the operator’s foot is removed from the
accelerator pedal, the pedal returns to its full up position by a return spring.
Should the accelerator cable stick or bind inside the cable housing, the cable
will be slack between the pedal and the cable housing (see picture at right).
This can prevent the throttle plate from fully closing, thus preventing the engine
speed from dropping below 1300 RPM. As long as the engine speed is above
1300 RPM the Shut Down Module will not allow the engine to shut down.
Instructions:
This issue can be corrected by adding a Spring (71-5470) and Keeper-Spring (110-2619) to the cable
end on the engine (see picture below). The additional pull back force added by the spring will help to
pull the cable back, ensuring that the throttle plate closes when the accelerator pedal is released.
