Situation: Objectionable hydraulic noise in the steer circuit.
HD/HDX Series Workman vehicles have been reported to possess varying levels of hydraulic steer
circuit noise. Root cause of this noise has been found to be flow pulsations from the pump resonating
through the hard lines which would excite the floor plate of the operator area of the vehicle. The
complaint is more likely to be observed in units with cabs due the enclosure trapping the sound from
the floor plate.
Replace Hose ASM (99-0965) and Fitting-HYD, 90 Degree (340-18) with Hose-ASM (121-6283) and
straight fitting Adapter (340-3). This hose has expansion characteristics that allow it to absorb the
hydraulic gear pump pulsations. A secondary hydraulic “swish” sound may be emanating from the
Pump-Steering (120-4813) when the steering wheel is turned. If this sound is found to be
objectionable, this component can also be replaced. Both of these modifications are considered
“upgrades” and are installed at customer expense.
