5.Cleanthedirt-ejectionportlocatedinthe
removablecover.
6.Removetherubberoutletvalvefromthecover,
cleanthecavity,andreplacetheoutletvalve.
7.Installthecover,orientingtherubberoutletvalve
inadownwardposition—betweenapproximately
5o’clockto7o’clockwhenviewedfromtheend.
8.Securethelatches.

Note:Thesparkplugsusuallylastalongtime;
however,youshouldremoveandcheckthem
whenevertheenginemalfunctions.
1.Cleantheareaaroundeachsparkplugsothat
foreignmattercannotfallintothecylinderwhen
thesparkplugisremoved.
2.Pullthespark-plugwiresoffthesparkplugsand
removetheplugsfromthecylinderhead.
3.Checktheconditionofthesideelectrode,center
electrode,andtheinsulatortoensurethatthere
isnodamage.
Important:Replaceacracked,fouled,dirty,
orotherwisemalfunctioningsparkplug.
Donotsand-blast,scrape,orcleanthe
electrodesusingawirebrushbecausegrit
mayeventuallyreleasefromtheplug,fall
intothecylinder,anddamagedtheengine.
4.Settheairgapbetweenthecenterelectrode
andsideelectrodesto0.76mm(0.030inch);
refertoFigure26.Installthecorrectlygapped
sparkplugwiththegasketseal,andtightenthe
plugto23N∙m(200in-lb).Ifatorquewrenchis
notused,tightentheplugrmly.
