Wearsafetyglassestoshieldyour
eyesandrubberglovestoprotect
yourhands.
Fillthebatterywherecleanwateris
alwaysavailableforushingtheskin.
5.Wait20to30minutestoallowalltrappedgasto
escapefromtheplates.Rellasnecessaryto
bringtheelectrolytetowithinabout6mm(1/4
inch)ofthebottomofthellwell.
6.Useabatterychargerwitha3to4Acharging
capacity,chargethebatteryata3to4Arate
untilthespecicgravityis1.250orhigherand
thetemperatureisatleast16°C(60°F)with
allcellsgassingfreely.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses
thatcanexplode.
Neversmokenearthebatteryandkeep
sparksandamesawayfromit.
7.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthe
chargerfromtheelectricaloutletandbattery
posts.
Note:Afteractivatingthebattery,addonly
distilledwatertoreplacenormalloss;although
maintenance-freebatteriesshouldnotrequire
waterundernormaloperatingconditions.
8.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery
compartment(Figure6).Positionthebatteryso
theterminalsaretotheoutside.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltools
couldshortagainstmetalmachine
components,causingsparks.Sparks
cancausethebatterygassestoexplode,
resultinginpersonalinjury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthe
battery,donotallowthebattery
terminalstotouchanymetalpartsof
themachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshort
betweenthebatteryterminalsand
metalpartsofthemachine.
9.Securethebatterytothecompartmentbasewith
abatteryrod,2holddownrods,2atwashers,
and2wingnuts(Figure6).
