MovingtheMachinewhen
theCoringHeadisLowered
Iftheenginefailsoryoucannotbestartitwiththe
coringheadloweredandthetinesengagedinthesoil,
performthefollowingsteps:
1.Removethetineholdersfromthestomperarms.
2.Openthebypassvalve1turn.
3.Pull/pushthemachinetoanearbylocationto
continueserviceorloadontoatrailer.
Important:Donotpull/pushmachineformore
than30.5m(100ft)andnofasterthan1.6km/h(1
mph),becausehydraulicdamagemayoccur.

General
WARNING
Contactingobstacleswiththemachinemay
causeyoutolosecontrolofit.
Alwaysbeawareofobstaclesatthejobsite.
Planyouraerationpathtoavoidcontactwith
anyobstaclebyyouorthemachine.
Makeverygradualturnswhenaerating.Never
makesharpturnswiththecoringheadengaged.
Planyouraerationpathbeforeloweringthe
aerator.
Alwaysmaintainawarenessofwhatliesaheadin
thedirectionofforwardtravel.Avoidoperation
incloseproximityofbuildings,fences,andother
equipment.
Lookbehindfrequentlytoensurethatthemachine
operatesproperly,andyoumaintainalignment
withpreviouspass.
Alwayscleartheareaofalldamagedmachine
parts,suchasbrokentines,etc.,toprevent
theirbeingpickedupbymowersorotherturf
maintenanceequipment.
Replacebrokentinesandinspectandcorrect
damagetothosestillusable.Repairanyother
machinedamagebeforecommencingoperation.
Whenaeratingwithlessthanthefullwidthof
themachine,youmayremovetines,butthetine
headsshouldremaininstalledonthestomper
armstoensureproperbalanceandoperationof
themachine.
Thismachineaeratesdeeperthanmostgreens
aerators.Onnativeormodiedpush-upgreens
andtees,thedeeperdepthandlongerhollow
tinesmayhavedifcultyejectingthecomplete
core.Thisisduetohardernativesoilthatsticks
intheendofthetine.Side-ejectgreens/tees
tinesfromTorostaycleanerandreducethetime
requiredtocleanthetinesout.Youwilleventually
eliminatethisconditionwithcontinuedaeration
andtop-dressingprograms.
HardGround
Ifthegroundistoormtoobtainthedesiredcoring
depth,thecoringheadcangetintoabouncingrhythm.
Thisisduetothehardpanthetinesareattemptingto
penetrate.Correctthisconditionbyattemptingthe
following:
Donotaerateifgroundistoohardordry.You
obtainbestaerationresultsafterarainorwatering
theturfthepreviousday.
Changetoa3-tinehead,ifattemptingtousethe
4-tineheadorreducethenumberoftinesper
stomperarm.Attempttomaintainasymmetrical
tinecongurationtoevenlyloadthestomperarms.
Ifgroundishardpacked,reduceaerator
penetration(depthsetting),cleanupthecores,
watertheturf,andaerateagainatadeeper
penetration.
Aerationofsoiltypesbuiltontopofhardsubsoils(i.e.,
soil/sandplacedoverrockysoil)cancauseundesired
holequality.Thisoccurswhentheaerationdepthis
greaterthanthebuiltupsoilandthesubsoilistoo
hardtopenetrate.Whenthetinescontactthisharder
subsoil,theaeratormayliftandcausethetopofthe
holestobecomeelongated.Reducetheaerating
depthsufcientlytoavoidpenetrationintothehard
subsoil.
Entrance/ExitHoleQuality
Ifthemachineisproducingthefollowingresults,the
entrance/exitholequalityisdeteriorating:
Theholequalityuponentranceisslotted(pulled
forward).
Thecoringheadfailstoengagebeforecontacting
theturf.
Thecoringheadtuftstheturfonentryorbounces
wheninshallowaerationdepths.
