Useonlyelectrolyte(1.265SpecicGravity)tollthe
batteryinitially.
Important:Donotaddelectrolytewhilethe
batteryisinthemachine.Youcouldspillit,
causingcorrosion.
DANGER
Batteryelectrolytecontainssulfuricacid
whichisadeadlypoisonandcausessevere
burns.
Donotdrinkelectrolyteandavoidcontact
withskin,eyes,orclothing.Wearsafety
glassestoshieldyoureyesandrubber
glovestoprotectyourhands.
Fillthebatterywherecleanwaterisalways
availableforushingtheskin.
5.Allowapproximately20to30minutestoallowall
trappedgastoescapefromtheplates.Rellas
necessarytobringtheelectrolytetowithinabout6mm
(1/4inch)ofthebottomofthellwell.
6.Connecta3to4ampbatterychargertothebattery
posts.Chargethebatteryatarateof3to4amps
untilthespecicgravityis1.250orhigherandthe
temperatureisatleast16degreesC(60degreesF)
withallcellsgassingfreely.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgassesthatcan
explode.
Neversmokenearthebatteryandkeepsparks
andamesawayfromit.
7.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthecharger
fromtheelectricaloutletandbatteryposts.
Note:Afterthebatteryhasbeenactivated,add
onlydistilledwatertoreplacenormalloss,although
maintenance-freebatteriesshouldnotrequirewater
undernormaloperatingconditions.
8.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery
compartment(Figure6)Positionthebatterysothe
terminalsaretotheoutside.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscouldshort
againstmetalmachinecomponentscausing
sparks.Sparkscancausethebatterygassesto
explode,resultinginpersonalinjury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthebattery,
donotallowthebatteryterminalstotouch
anymetalpartsofthemachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshortbetween
thebatteryterminalsandmetalpartsof
themachine.
9.Securethebatterytothecompartmentbasewitha
batteryrod,2holddownrods,2atwashers,and2
wingnuts(
Figure6).
