Iftheholequalityuponentranceisslotted(pulledforward)
orthecoringheadfailstoengagebeforecontactingtheturf,
theengagementpositionswitchmayrequireadjustment.
VerifythattheswitchassemblyalongsidetheH-Frameis
nomorethan1.5mm(0.06inches)fromthetargetplate
Verifythatthe#3switchisfunctioningproperly.
Ifneeded,loosentheswitchmountingplateandlifttoits
highestpositionandre–securethemountingplate.The
highertheswitch,thesoonertheclutchengages.
Ifthecoringheadfailstostartbeforeentranceandthe
positionswitchislocatedashighaspermissible,theelectric
clutchmayhavedeterioratedsufcientlytocauseadelayin
engagement.ContactyourTorodistributororrefertothe
ServiceManual.
MiniTine(QuadTine)
Themini-tineheaddevelopedbyToroisaveryfastway
toaerateduetothedoublerowdesign.Thiscoringhead
requirestheholespacingtobesetat6.3cm(2.5inches).
Groundspeediscriticaltomaintaintheappearanceof3.2cm
(1.25inch)holespacing.Refertotheholespacingadjustment
sectionifyourholespacingrequiresasmallchange.
Withtheminitineheadorlargersolidtineuse,theturf
rootstructureisimportanttopreventingturfdamagedue
totearingoftherootzone.Ifthecentertwoarmsbeginto
lifttheturfordamagetotherootzoneisexcessive,proceed
asfollows:
Increasetheholespacing
Decreasetinesize
Decreasetinedepth
Removesomeofthetines
Thisdamageiscausedbytheliftingactionthatsolidtines
createwhenpulledfromtheturf.Thisliftcanteartheroot
zoneifthedensityoftinesordiameteroftinesistoohigh.
FrontHoleDimpledorPushed(Solid
TinesorSofterSoilConditions)
Whenaeratingwithlongersolidtines(i.e.3/8x4inches
long)orneedletypetines,thefrontoftheholesmaybecome
slottedortufted.Toregainexcellentholequalityforthis
conguration,slowtheenginehighidlespeeddownto
2800–2900RPM.Theholespacingisnotaffectedasthe
tractionandcoringheadspeedsarebothafunctionofengine
speed.
Ifslowingtheenginespeeddoesnotworktotheremedy
holequalityforthelargersolidtines,theRoto-Linkdamper
mechanismmayrequireastiffersetting.AstifferRoto-Link
settingmayhelpeliminatethefrontoftheholefrombeing
deformed.However,undermostconditions,thefactory
settingworksbest.
Note:AlterhalfoftheRoto-Links(3arms)andtestthe
differenceonasampleplot.
1.RemovethelocknutssecuringtheRoto-Linkdamper
assemblytothecoringheadframe.
2.Removethetopdamper–spacer(1.25cm(1/2inch)
thick)andre–securetheRoto-Linkdamperassembly
tothecoringheadframe.Besuretousethehardened
Dwasher.
3.Loosentheboltssecuringthebumperplate.
4.Slidethebumperplateforwardandsecurethebolts.
ThisallowstheRoto-Linkbumperstooscillate
properly.
Taketheaeratortoatestareaandcomparetheholequality.If
improved,completethisprocedurewithremainingRoto-Link
damperassemblies.
Note:ThisrepositioningoftheRoto-Linkdampermust
bereversedifthetinetypeischangedbacktoacoringstyle
tineoranyofthemini–tines.
UponCompletion
Afterdailyuse,thoroughlywashthemachinewithagarden
hosewithoutanozzlesocontaminationandsealandbearing
damageduetoexcessivewaterpressurewillbeavoided.A
brushmaybeusedtoremovecaked-onmaterial.Usemild
detergenttocleanthecovers.Applyingacoatofautowax
periodicallywillretainthecover’sglossynish.Aftercleaning,
inspectformachinedamage,oilleakage,componentand
tinewear.
Remove,clean,andoilthetines.Sprayalightoilmiston
coringheadbearings(crank&damperlinks).
Securetheservicelatchiftheaeratoristobestoredformore
thanacoupledays.
