Wearsafetyglassestoshieldyour
eyesandrubberglovestoprotect
yourhands.
Fillthebatterywherecleanwateris
alwaysavailableforushingtheskin.
5.Allowapproximately20to30minutestoallowall
trappedgastoescapefromtheplates.Rellas
necessarytobringtheelectrolytetowithinabout
6mm(1/4inch)ofthebottomofthellwell.
6.Connecta3to4Abatterychargertothebattery
posts.Chargethebatteryatarateof3to4A
untilthespecicgravityis1.250orhigherand
thetemperatureisatleast16degreesC(60
degreesF)withallcellsgassingfreely.
WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgasses
thatcanexplode.
Neversmokenearthebatteryandkeep
sparksandamesawayfromit.
7.Whenthebatteryischarged,disconnectthe
chargerfromtheelectricaloutletandbattery
posts.
Note:Afterthebatteryhasbeenactivated,
addonlydistilledwatertoreplacenormalloss,
althoughmaintenance-freebatteriesshouldnot
requirewaterundernormaloperatingconditions.
8.Insertthebatteryintothetrayinthebattery
compartment(Figure6)Positionthebatteryso
theterminalsaretotheoutside.
WARNING
Batteryterminalsormetaltoolscould
shortagainstmetalmachinecomponents
causingsparks.Sparkscancausethe
batterygassestoexplode,resultingin
personalinjury.
Whenremovingorinstallingthe
battery,donotallowthebattery
terminalstotouchanymetalpartsof
themachine.
Donotallowmetaltoolstoshort
betweenthebatteryterminalsand
metalpartsofthemachine.
9.Securethebatterytothecompartmentbasewith
abatteryrod,2holddownrods,2atwashers,
and2wingnuts(Figure6).
