Stopthemachine,shutofftheengine,remove
thekey,waitforallmovingpartstostop,and
inspectthetinesafterstrikinganobjectorifthere
isanabnormalvibrationinthemachine.Makeall
necessaryrepairsbeforeresumingoperation.

Reducespeedonroughroadsandsurfaces
SlopeSafety
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtolossofcontrol
androlloveraccidents,whichcanresultinsevere
injuryordeath.Youareresponsibleforsafeslope
operation.Operatingthemachineonanyslope
requiresextracaution.
Evaluatethesiteconditionstodetermineifthe
slopeissafeformachineoperationincluding
surveyingthesite.Alwaysusecommonsense
andgoodjudgmentwhenperformingthissurvey.
Reviewtheslopeinstructionslistedbelowfor
operatingthemachineonslopesandreviewthe
conditionstodeterminewhetheryoucanoperate
themachineintheconditionsonthatdayandat
thatsite.Changesintheterraincanresultina
changeinslopeoperationforthemachine.
Avoidstarting,stopping,orturningthemachineon
slopes.Avoidmakingsuddenchangesinspeedor
direction.Maketurnsslowlyandgradually.
Donotoperateamachineunderanyconditions
wheretraction,steering,orstabilityisinquestion.
Removeormarkobstructionssuchasditches,
holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhiddenhazards.
Tallgrasscanhideobstructions.Uneventerrain
couldoverturnthemachine.
Beawarethatoperatingthemachineonwet
grass,acrossslopes,ordownhillmaycausethe
machinetolosetraction.Lossoftractiontothe
drivewheelsmayresultinslidingandalossof
brakingandsteering.
Useextremecautionwhenoperatingthemachine
neardropoffs,ditches,embankments,water
hazards,orotherhazards.Themachinecould
suddenlyrolloverifawheelgoesovertheedge
ortheedgecavesin.Establishasafetyarea
betweenthemachineandanyhazard.
StartingandShuttingOff
theEngine
StartingtheEngine
1.Releasethetractionlever(bail)andengagethe
parkingbrake.
2.MovethechokecontroltotheONpositionbefore
startingacoldengine.
Note:Awarmorhotenginemaynotrequire
choking.Aftertheenginestarts,movethechoke
controltotheRUNposition.
3.MovethethrottlecontroltotheFASTposition
beforestartingacoldengine.
4.Turntheignitionkeytostart.Whentheengine
starts,releasethekey.
Important:Donotengagethestarterfor
morethan10secondsatatime.Iftheengine
failstostart,allowa30-secondcooldown
periodbetweenattempts.Failuretofollow
theseinstructionscanburnoutthestarter
motor.
5.Aftertheenginestarts,movethechoketothe
OFFposition.Iftheenginestallsorhesitates,
movethechokebacktotheONpositionfora
fewseconds.Thenmovethethrottleleverto
desiredsetting.Repeatthisasrequired.
ShuttingOfftheEngine
1.MovethethrottlelevertotheSlowposition.
2.Lettheengineidlefor60seconds.
3.TurntheignitionkeytotheOffpositionand
removethekey.
4.Closethefuel-shutoffvalvebeforetransporting
orstoringtheaerator.
Important:Ensurethatthefuel-shutoff
valveisclosedbeforetransportingona
trailerorstoringtheaerator,asfuelleakage
mayoccur.Engagetheparkingbrakebefore
transportingthemachine.Makesureto
removethekeyasthefuelpumpmayrun
andcausethebatterytolosecharge.
