Changetoa3-tinehead,ifattemptingtousethe
4-tineheadorreducethenumberoftinesper
stomperarm.Attempttomaintainasymmetrical
tinecongurationtoevenlyloadthestomperarms.
Reduceaeratorpenetration(depthsetting),if
groundishardpacked.Cleanupcores,waterturf,
andre–aerateatadeeperpenetration.
Aerationofsoiltypesbuiltontopofhardsubsoils(i.e.
soil/sandplacedoverrockysoil)cancauseundesired
holequality.Thisiscausedwhentheaerationdepthis
greaterthanthebuiltupsoilandthesubsoilistoohard
topenetrate.Whenthetinescontactthishardersub
soiltheaeratormayliftandcausethetopoftheholes
tobecomeelongated.Reducetheaeratingdepth
sufcientlytoavoidpenetrationintothehardsubsoil.
Entrance/Exit
Iftheentrance/exitholequalityisdeteriorating,the
clutchmaynotbeengagingsoonenough.Checkthe
following:
Theno.3switchlocationonH-Frame
Clutchwear/slippage
Iftheholequalityuponentranceisslotted(pulled
forward)orthecoringheadfailstoengagebefore
contactingtheturf,theengagementpositionswitch
mayrequireadjustment.
Verifythattheswitchassemblyalongsidethe
H-Frameisnomorethan1.5mm(0.06inches)
fromthetargetplate.
Verifythatthe#3switchisfunctioningproperly.
Ifneeded,loosentheswitchmountingplateandlift
toitshighestpositionandre–securethemounting
plate.Thehighertheswitch,thesoonertheclutch
engages.
Ifthecoringheadfailstostartbeforeentranceand
thepositionswitchislocatedashighaspermissible,
theelectricclutchmayhavedeterioratedsufciently
tocauseadelayinengagement.ContactyourToro
distributororrefertotheServiceManual.
MiniTine(QuadTine)
Themini-tineheaddevelopedbyToroisaveryfast
waytoaerateduetothedoublerowdesign.This
coringheadrequirestheholespacingtobesetat6.3
cm(2.5inches).Groundspeediscriticaltomaintain
theappearanceof3.2cm(1.25inch)holespacing.
RefertoAdjustingHoleSpacing(page45)ifyourhole
spacingrequiresasmallchange.
Withtheminitineheadorlargersolidtineuse,theturf
rootstructureisimportanttopreventingturfdamage
duetotearingoftherootzone.Ifthecenter2arms
begintolifttheturfordamagetotherootzoneis
excessive,proceedasfollows:
Increasetheholespacing
Decreasetinesize
Decreasetinedepth
Removesomeofthetines
Thisdamageiscausedbytheliftingactionthatsolid
tinescreatewhenpulledfromtheturf.Thisliftcan
teartherootzoneifthedensityoftinesordiameter
oftinesistoohigh.
FrontHoleDimpledorPushed
(SolidTinesorSofterSoil
Conditions)
Whenaeratingwithlongersolidtines(i.e.3/8x4
incheslong)orneedletypetines,thefrontoftheholes
maybecomeslottedortufted.T oregainexcellent
holequalityforthisconguration,slowtheenginehigh
idlespeeddownto2800–2900rpm.Theholespacing
isnotaffectedasthetractionandcoringheadspeeds
arebothafunctionofenginespeed.
Ifslowingtheenginespeeddoesnotworktothe
remedyholequalityforthelargersolidtines,the
Roto-Linkdampermechanismmayrequireastiffer
setting.AstifferRoto-Linksettingmayhelpeliminate
thefrontoftheholefrombeingdeformed.However,
undermostconditions,thefactorysettingworksbest.
Note:AlterhalfoftheRoto-Links(3arms)andtest
thedifferenceonasampleplot.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,shutoffthe
engine,engagetheparkingbrake,andremove
thekey.
2.RemovethelocknutssecuringtheRoto-Link
damperassemblytothecoringheadframe.
3.Removethetopdamper-spacer(1.25cm(1/2
inch)thick)andre-securetheRoto-Linkdamper
assemblytothecoringheadframe.Besureto
usethehardenedDwasher.
4.Loosentheboltssecuringthebumperplate.
5.Slidethebumperplateforwardandsecurethe
bolts.ThisallowstheRoto-Linkbumpersto
oscillateproperly.
Taketheaeratortoatestareaandcomparethehole
quality.Ifimproved,completethisprocedurewith
remainingRoto-Linkdamperassemblies.
Note:ThisrepositioningoftheRoto-Linkdamper
mustbereversedifthetinetypeischangedbacktoa
coringstyletineoranyofthemini-tines.
UponCompletion
Afterdailyuse,thoroughlywashthemachinewitha
gardenhosewithoutanozzletoavoidcontamination
