Important:Bearingsrarelyfailfromdefectsinmaterials
orworkmanship.Themostcommonreasonforfailure
ismoistureandcontaminationworkingitswaypast
theprotectiveseals.Bearingsthataregreasedwillrely
uponregularmaintenancetopurgeharmfuldebrisfrom
thebearingarea.Sealedbearingsrelyonaninitialll
ofspecialgreaseandarobustintegralsealtokeep
contaminantsandmoistureoutoftherollingelements.
Thesealedbearingsrequirenolubricationorshortterm
maintenance.Thisminimizesroutineservicerequired
andreducesthepotentialofturfdamageduetogrease
contamination.Thesesealedbearingpackageswillprovide
goodperformanceandlifeundernormaluse,butperiodic
inspectionsofbearingconditionandsealintegrityshould
beconductedtoavoiddowntime.Thesebearingsshould
beinspectedseasonallyandreplacedifdamagedorworn.
Bearingsshouldoperatesmoothlywithnodetrimental
characteristicssuchashighheat,noise,looseness,orrust
weeping.
Duetotheoperatingconditionsthesebearing/sealpackages
aresubjectto(i.e.sand,turfchemicals,water,impacts,etc.)
theyareconsiderednormalwearitems.Bearingsthatfail
duetootherthandefectsinmaterialsorworkmanshipare
typicallynotcoveredunderwarranty.
Note:Bearinglifecanbenegativelyaffectedbyimproper
washingprocedures.Donotwashtheunitwhenitisstillhot
andavoiddirectinghigh-pressureorhigh-volumesprayat
thebearings.
Itiscommonfornewbearingstopurgesomegreaseoutof
thesealsonanewmachine.Thispurgedgreasewillturnblack
incolorduetocollectionofdebrisandnotduetoexcessive
heat.Itisgoodpracticetowipethisexcessgreasefromthe
sealsaftertheinitial8hours.Theremayalwaysappeartobea
wetareaaroundtheseallip.Thisisgenerallynotdetrimental
tobearinglife,butkeepsthesealliplubricated.
Coringheadbearingreplacementissuggestedatintervalsof
500hours.Abearingservicekitwhichcoversthecomplete
coringheadisavailablefromyourdistributor.
CheckingtheGearbox
Lubrication
ServiceInterval:Every100hours
Thegearboxislledwith80W-90gearoilorequivalent.
Allowthegearboxtocoolbeforecheckingthelubrication.
1.Cleandebrisfromthellplugandchecktheplugto
avoidcontamination.
2.Removethecheckplugfromthegearbox(Figure30).
