Important:Bearingsrarelyfailfromdefectsin
materialsorworkmanship.Themostcommon
reasonforfailureismoistureandcontamination
workingitswaypasttheprotectiveseals.
Bearingsthataregreasedwillrelyuponregular
maintenancetopurgeharmfuldebrisfromthe
bearingarea.Sealedbearingsrelyonaninitial
llofspecialgreaseandarobustintegralsealto
keepcontaminantsandmoistureoutoftherolling
elements.
Thesealedbearingsrequirenolubricationorshort
termmaintenance.Thisminimizesroutineservice
requiredandreducesthepotentialofturfdamage
duetogreasecontamination.Thesesealedbearing
packageswillprovidegoodperformanceandlife
undernormaluse,butperiodicinspectionsofbearing
conditionandsealintegrityshouldbeconducted
toavoiddowntime.Thesebearingsshouldbe
inspectedseasonallyandreplacedifdamagedor
worn.Bearingsshouldoperatesmoothlywithno
detrimentalcharacteristicssuchashighheat,noise,
looseness,orrustweeping.
Duetotheoperatingconditionsthesebearing/seal
packagesaresubjectto(i.e.sand,turfchemicals,
water,impacts,etc.)theyareconsiderednormalwear
items.Bearingsthatfailduetootherthandefectsin
materialsorworkmanshiparetypicallynotcovered
underwarranty.
Note:Bearinglifecanbenegativelyaffectedby
improperwashingprocedures.Donotwashtheunit
whenitisstillhotandavoiddirectinghigh-pressureor
high-volumesprayatthebearings.
Itiscommonfornewbearingstopurgesomegrease
outofthesealsonanewmachine.Thispurged
greasewillturnblackincolorduetocollectionof
debrisandnotduetoexcessiveheat.Itisgood
practicetowipethisexcessgreasefromtheseals
aftertheinitial8hours.Theremayalwaysappearto
beawetareaaroundtheseallip.Thisisgenerally
notdetrimentaltobearinglife,butkeepstheseallip
lubricated.
Coringheadbearingreplacementissuggestedat
intervalsof500hours.Abearingservicekitwhich
coversthecompletecoringheadisavailablefrom
yourdistributor.
CheckingtheGearbox
Lubrication
ServiceInterval:Every100hours
Thegearboxislledwith80W-90gearoilor
equivalent.Allowthegearboxtocoolbeforechecking
thelubrication.
1.Cleandebrisfromthellplugandchecktheplug
toavoidcontamination.
2.Removethecheckplugfromthegearbox
(Figure31).

Thegearboxislledwith80W-90gearoilor
equivalent.
1.Cleandebrisfromthellplugandthedraincap
toavoidcontamination(Figure31).
2.Removethellplugtorelieveairdraw.
3.Positionadrainpanunderthedraintubeand
removethedraincap.
Note:Thehighviscosityofcooloilextendsthe
draintime(approximately30minutes).
4.Afteroiliscompletelydrained,installthedrain
cap.
5.Fillthegearboxwith1650ml(56oz)ofhigh
quality80W-90gearlube.
6.Installthellplug.
7.Checktheoillevel.
