Installation Instructions
Note: Determine the left and right side of the machine from
the normal operating position.
1. Park machine on a level surface, lower attachment, turn
engine off, set parking brake and remove key from
ignition switch.
2. Block front wheels.
3. Jack up the frame (just ahead of the rear wheels) until
rear tires are just off the floor. Support the machine with
jack stands to prevent it from falling.
4. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from the steering
cylinder. Put caps or plugs on all the fittings and hoses
to prevent contamination.
Note: To ease reassembly, tag each of the hoses to show
their correct position on the steering cylinder.
5. Carefully remove the (4) bolts and nuts securing axle
support to frame.
Use caution when removing axle support as it
contains the rear weight and is very heavy.
Caution
6. Remove the nut and washer from the end of the rear
axle pin. Remove the capscrew(s) securing the axle pin
to the axle support.
7. Pull the axle pin out. This will release the rear axle and
washer(s) from the axle support.
Note: A varying number of washers may have been
installed between the axle pivot tube and axle support
during manufacture. Make sure the same number of
washers are installed during reassembly.
8. Remove the lock nut and capscrew securing the steering
cylinder rod end to the steering pivot.
9. Remove the nuts to disconnect the tie rod ends from the
steering pivot. lnspect tie rod ends and balljoints for
wear or damage and replace as necessary.
10. Remove the retaining rings and washers that secure the
wheel spindles into the axle tubes. Slide the spindle and
wheel assembly out of the axle tubes.
11. Apply grease to the inside of the axle tube bushings on
the new rear axle.

12. Wipe the spindle shafts with a rag to remove any dirt
and grease. Inspect the spindles for wear and replace as
necessary.
13. Install the thrust bushings onto the spindle shafts and
push the shafts through the axle tubes. Hold the wheel
and spindle shaft assembly in place and install the thrust
washer, washer and retaining ring onto the end of each
spindle shaft.
14. Connect each tie rod end to the spindle bracket with one
(1) nut. Tighten the nut to a torque of 25 – 33 ft–lb.
Install the jam nut and tighten against the other nut to
secure tie rod end.
15. Install the lock nut and capscrew to secure the steering
cylinder rod end to the steering pivot. Tighten the nut to
130 to 150 ft–lb.
