Purging the System - Hydrostatic Models Due to the effect air has on efficiency in hydrostatic drive applications, it is critical that it be purged from the system. 3 Fig 319 PICT-7344 These purge procedures should be implemented any time a hydrostatic system has been opened to facilitate maintenance or any additional oil has been added to the system.
CHASSIS Before starting, make sure the transaxle is at the specified oil level (Fig. 321). A B C Fluid Change - Hydrostatic Models The Hydro-Gear transaxle is factory filled, sealed and does not require oil maintenance. However, in the event of oil contamination or degradation, oil replacement may correct certain performance problems. Remove the transaxle from the vehicle and completely drain the oil from the top fluid fill port. Refill unit as near the top of fill port as is practical.
CHASSIS Neutral Adjustment - Hydrostatic Models 3. Remove the bolt, washer and wheel assembly from the right axle (Fig. 324). Before making a neutral adjustment, the transmission must be warmed up for at least 10 minutes. 1. CHASSIS 5. Start the engine and run it at full throttle. Front Wheel Toe-in Measurement 6. Rotate the adjusting puck in both directions and watch the axle direction. Adjust the puck so it is set at the midpoint between forward and reverse axle rotation. Make sure the axle is not moving. If there is uneven tire wear, lawn scuffing, or hard steering, toe-in may need to be adjusted. The front toe-in measurement should be 1/16” to 5/16” (1.58 to 7.93mm).
CHASSIS 3. Measure the distance between the front rims at steering axle level (front and rear of the wheels). Note: You can also measure between the tread mold marks if the tires are new (Fig. 328 - front and Fig. 329 - rear). Front Wheel Toe-in Adjustment 1.
