The enclosed Engine Owner’s Manual is supplied for information regarding the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the California Emission Control Regulation of emission systems, maintenance, and warranty. Replacements may be ordered through the engine manufacturer. • Do not pull machine backward unless absolutely necessary. Always look down and behind before and while moving backward. • Never direct discharged material toward anyone. Avoid discharging material against a wall or obstruction.

Checking the Engine Oil Level Operation Service Interval: Before each use or daily Filling the Fuel Tank Note: Max. fill: 20 oz. Adjusting the Cutting Height Starting the Engine 1. Hold the blade control bar against the handle (Figure 10). WARNING Adjusting the cutting height may bring you into contact with the moving blade, causing serious injury. • Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. • Do not put your fingers under the housing when adjusting the cutting height. CAUTION If the engine has been running, the muffler will be hot and can severely burn you. Keep away from the hot muffler.
Note: If the mower does not start after several attempts, contact an Authorized Service Dealer. Using the Self-propel Drive To operate the self-propel drive, simply walk with your hands on the upper handle and your elbows at your sides, and the mower will automatically keep pace with you (Figure 13). Stopping the Engine To stop the engine, release the blade control bar. Note: Remove the ignition key when you leave the mower (electric-start models only). Important: When you release the blade control bar, both the engine and blade should stop within 3 seconds. If they do not stop properly, stop using your mower immediately and contact an Authorized Service Dealer. Recycling the Clippings Your mower comes from the factory ready to recycle the grass and leaf clippings back into the lawn.

Bag-on-demand lever (in bagging position) Side-discharging the Clippings • For recycling the grass and leaf clippings, press the button on the lever and move the lever rearward until the button on the lever pops up. Use the side discharge for cutting very tall grass.
Installing the Side Discharge Chute Operating Tips Lift up the side deflector and install the side discharge chute (Figure 17). General Mowing Tips • Clear the area of sticks, stones, wire, branches, and other debris that the blade could hit. • Avoid striking solid objects with the blade. Never deliberately mow over any object. • If the mower strikes an object or starts to vibrate, immediately stop the engine, disconnect the wire from the spark plug, and examine the mower for damage.
– Set the cutting height on the front wheels one notch lower than the rear wheels. For example, set the front wheels at 2-1/8-inch (54 mm) and the rear wheels at 2-1/2 inches (64 mm). Cutting Leaves • After cutting the lawn, ensure that half of the lawn shows through the cut leaf cover. You may need to make more than one pass over the leaves. • If there are more than 5 inches (13 cm) of leaves on the lawn, set the front cutting height one or two notches higher than the rear cutting height.
Maintenance Note: Determine the left and right sides of the machine from the normal operating position. Charging the Battery • A green light indicates that the charger is fully charged or the charger is disconnected from the battery. Service Interval: Every 25 hours Electric-start models only • A flashing light that alternates between red and green indicates that the battery is nearly fully charged. This state lasts only a few minutes until the battery is fully charged.

Operación Cómo llenar el depósito de combustible PELIGRO La gasolina es altamente inflamable y explosiva. Un incendio o una explosión provocado(a) por la gasolina puede causarle quemaduras a usted y a otras personas. • Para evitar que una carga estática incendie la gasolina, coloque el recipiente y/o el cortacésped directamente sobre el suelo antes de repostar, no en un vehículo o sobre otro objeto. 5. Observe en la varilla el nivel de aceite. Nota: Si el cortacésped no arranca después de varios intentos, póngase en contacto con el Servicio Técnico Autorizado. Uso de la transmisión autopropulsada Para activar el sistema de autopropulsión, simplemente camine con las manos sobre el manillar superior y los codos junto al cuerpo, y el cortacésped mantendrá automáticamente su misma velocidad (Figura 13). Reciclado de los recortes Su cortacésped viene preparado de fábrica para reciclar, es decir, para picar los recortes de hierba y hojas y devolverlos al césped. Si la bolsa de recortes está instalada en el cortacésped, y la palanca de ensacado a demanda está en la posición de ensacado, mueva la palanca a la posición de reciclado (consulte Manejo de la palanca de ensacado a demanda) antes de reciclar los recortes.
Funcionamiento de la palanca de ensacado a demanda La función de ensacado a demanda le permite recoger o reciclar los recortes de hierba y hojas con la bolsa de recortes instalada en el cortacésped. • Para ensacar los recortes de hierba y hojas, presione hacia dentro el botón de la palanca de ensacado a demanda y mueva la palanca hacia delante hasta que salga el botón de la palanca (Figura 15) Figura 16 1. Consejos de operación Consejos generales de siega • Despeje la zona de palos, piedras, alambres, ramas y otros residuos que podrían ser golpeados por la cuchilla. • Evite golpear objetos sólidos con la cuchilla. No siegue nunca por encima de objeto alguno. • Si el cortacésped golpea un objeto o empieza a vibrar, pare inmediatamente el motor, desconecte el cable de la bujía e inspeccione el cortacésped en busca de daños.
– Cambiar la cuchilla o mandarla a afilar. – Caminar más despacio mientras siega. – Elevar la altura de corte del cortacésped. – Cortar el césped con más frecuencia. – Solapar los pasillos de corte en lugar de cortar un pasillo completo en cada pasada. – Ajustar la altura de corte una muesca menos en las ruedas delanteras que en las traseras. Por ejemplo, ajuste las ruedas delanteras a 54 mm (2-1/8 pulg.) y las traseras a 64 mm (2-1/2 pulg.).

Este estado dura tan sólo unos minutos hasta completarse la carga de la batería. Cambio del fusible Modelos de arranque eléctrico solamente Si la batería no se carga o el motor no funciona con el motor de arranque eléctrico, es posible que el fusible esté fundido. Cámbielo por un fusible de 40amperios, tipo clavija. 1. Eleve el deflector trasero y localice el compartimento de la batería (Figura 23). Importante: Coloque la cuchilla con los extremos curvos hacia la carcasa del cortacésped. 2. Coloque el cortacésped de lado con el filtro de aire hacia arriba. 3. Utilice un bloque de madera para inmovilizar la cuchilla (Figura 25). 6. Utilice una llave dinamométrica para apretar el perno de la cuchilla a 82 Nm (60 pies-libra). Importante: Un perno apretado a 82 Nm (60 pies-libra) queda muy firme.
Limpieza del cortacésped 9. Arranque el motor y hágalo funcionar durante unos minutos para que se seque la carcasa y evitar que se oxide.
