Fill the fuel tank with fresh unleaded regular gasoline from a major name-brand service station (Figure 9). – Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors. – Keep your hands and face away from the nozzle and the fuel-tank opening. Important: To reduce starting problems, add fuel stabilizer/conditioner to fresh fuel as directed by the fuel-stabilizer manufacturer. – Keep fuel away from your eyes and skin. Refer to your engine owner’s manual for additional information.

Adjusting the Cutting Height CAUTION If the engine has been running, the muffler will be hot and can severely burn you. Keep away from the hot muffler. Adjust the cutting height as desired. Set all wheels to the same cutting height (Figure 13).

Operating the Bag-on-Demand Lever Important: For proper operation, shut off the engine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and then remove any grass clippings and debris from the bag-on-demand door and the surrounding opening (Figure 18) before you move the bag-on-demand lever from 1 position to another. The bag-on-demand feature allows you to either collect or recycle grass and leaf clippings while the grass bag is attached to the machine.

Removing the Side-Discharge Chute To remove the side-discharge chute, lift up the side deflector, remove the side-discharge chute, and lower the side-discharge deflector. Folding the Handle Storing the Machine in the Vertical-Stow Position WARNING During the mowing season or in the off-season, you can store your machine in the vertical position to minimize storage space. Folding or unfolding the handle improperly can damage the cables, causing an unsafe operating condition. DANGER • Do not damage the cables when folding or unfolding the handle. Fuel is extremely flammable and explosive. A fire or explosion from fuel can burn you and others.

Adjusting the Self-Propel Drive Storage Store the machine in a cool, clean, dry place. For Self-Propel-Drive Models Only Storage Safety Whenever you install a new self-propel cable or if the self-propel drive is out of adjustment, adjust the self-propel drive. 1. Always shut off the machine, wait for all moving parts to stop, and allow the machine to cool before adjusting, servicing, cleaning, or storing it. Turn the adjustment nut counterclockwise to loosen the cable adjustment (Figure 31).
