Scraping Method
Tipping the lawn mower may cause the fuel to leak
from the carburetor or the fuel tank. Gasoline is
extremely flammable, highly explosive and under
certain conditions can cause personal injury or
property damage.
Avoid fuel spills by running the engine dry or
removing gasoline with a hand pump; never
siphon.
Warning
If washing does not remove all the debris from under the
deck, tip the lawn mower and scrape it clean.
1. Remove the grass bag.
2. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 7).
3. Drain the gasoline from the fuel tank. Refer to steps 3
and 4 of Emptying the Fuel Tank on page 20.
4. If the grass bag is on the lawn mower, close the door in
the lawn mower housing and remove the grass bag.
5. Tip the lawn mower onto its left side (Fig. 16).
6. Remove the dirt and grass clippings with a hardwood or
plastic scraper. Avoid burrs and sharp edges.
Important Move the blade as little as possible to avoid
future starting problems.
7. Turn the lawn mower upright.
8. Connect the wire to the spark plug.
Cleaning the Discharge Tunnel
and Plug
To ensure the best performance, clean the discharge tunnel
and plug after each use. When the grass is thick and lush,
clippings may collect on and around the plug, making it
difficult to remove the plug.
Always ensure that the discharge tunnel door locks closed
when you release the handle. If debris prevents the
discharge door from locking closed, clean the inside of the
discharge tunnel and the door thoroughly.
Replacing the Air Filter
Replace the air filter after every 25 operating hours; replace
it more frequently when you operate the lawn mower in
dusty or dirty conditions.
Important Do not operate the engine without the air
filter element; extreme engine damage will occur.
1. Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.
2. Disconnect the wire from the spark plug (Fig. 7).
3. Loosen the screw that secures the air filter cover to the
engine (Fig. 18).
