theair-lterelements.
Every50hours—Cleantheair-lterelements.
Cleanthemmorefrequentlyindustyoperating
conditions.
Every200hours—Replacetheair-lter
elements.Replacethemmorefrequentlyin
dustyoperatingconditions.
Important:Donotoperatetheenginewithoutthe
air-lterassemblyinplace;otherwise,extreme
enginedamagewilloccur.
1.Shutofftheengineandwaitforallmovingparts
tostop.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Removethe2nutsthatsecurethecover(Figure
22).
4.Removethecover.
Note:Becarefultopreventdirtanddebrisfrom
fallingintothebaseoftheairlter.
5.Removethefoamandpaperelementsfromthe
baseoftheairlter(Figure22).
6.Removethefoamelementfromthepaper
element(Figure22).

replacethemiftheyaredamagedorexcessively
dirty.

orinanonammablesolvent.

10.Rinseanddrythefoamelementthoroughly.
11.Dipthefoamelementincleanengineoil,then
squeezeouttheexcessoil.
Note:Excessoilinthefoamelementrestricts
theairowthroughtheelementandmayreach
thepaperlterandclogit.
12.Wipedirtfromboththebaseandthecoverof
theairlterwithamoistrag.
Note:Becarefultopreventdirtanddebrisfrom
enteringtheairductleadingtothecarburetor.
13.Installtheair-lterelementsandensurethat
theyareproperlyinplace.
14.Securelyinstallthecoverwiththe2nutsthat
youremovedinstep3.

Runtheengineafewminutesbeforechangingtheoil
towarmit.Warmoilowsbetterandcarriesmore
contaminants.
