MaintainingtheBlade
Alwaysmowwithasharpblade.Asharpbladecutscleanly
andwithouttearingorshreddingthegrassblades.
1.Stoptheengineandwaitforallmovingpartstostop.
2.Disconnectthewirefromthesparkplug.
3.Closethefuelvalvebymovingthefuel-valveleverto
theleft(Figure12).
4.Drainthegasolinefromthefueltank.
5.Tipthemachineontoitsrightside(aircleanerup)as
showninFigure22.

InspectingtheBlade
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Inspectthe
mowerbladesforwearordamage.
Carefullyexaminethebladeforsharpnessandwear,especially
wheretheatandthecurvedpartsmeet(Figure23A).
Becausesandandabrasivematerialcanwearawaythemetal
thatconnectstheatandcurvedpartsoftheblade,check
thebladebeforeusingthemachine.Ifyounoticeaslotor
wear(Figure23BandFigure23C),replacetheblade;referto
RemovingtheBlade(page19).

Note:Forthebestperformance,installanewbladebefore
themowingseasonbegins.Duringtheyear,ledownany
smallnickstomaintainthecuttingedge.
DANGER
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,andapiece
ofthebladecouldbethrowninyourdirectionor
inthedirectionofbystanders,resultinginserious
personalinjuryordeath.
Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
Replaceawornordamagedblade.
RemovingtheBlade
1.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorathickly
paddedglove.
2.Removethebladebolt,thelockwasher,theaccelerator,
andtheblade(Figure23).
SharpeningtheBlade
ServiceInterval:Every50hours—Sharpenorreplacethe
blade.Maintainitmorefrequentlyifthe
edgedullsquicklyinroughorinsandy
conditions.
Filethetopsideofthebladetomaintainitsoriginalcutting
angle(
Figure24A)andinnercuttingedgeradius(Figure
24B).Thebladewillremainbalancedifyouremovethesame
amountofmaterialfrombothcuttingedges.
