Preparation
•Useonlyaccessoriesandattachmentsapproved
bythemanufacturer.
•Wearappropriateclothingincludinghardhat,
safetyglasses,andearprotection.Longhair,
looseclothingorjewelrymaygettangledinmoving
parts.
•Inspecttheareawheretheequipmentistobe
usedandremoveallobjects,suchasrocks,toys,
andwire,whichcanbethrownbythemachine.
•Checkthatoperator'spresencecontrols,safety
switches,andshieldsareattachedandfunctioning
properly.Donotoperatethemachineunlessthey
arefunctioningproperly.
SafeHandlingofFuels
•Toavoidpersonalinjuryorpropertydamage,use
extremecareinhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis
extremelyammableandthevaporsareexplosive.
•Extinguishallcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andother
sourcesofignition.
•Useonlyanapprovedfuelcontainer.
•Neverremovefuelcaporaddfuelwiththeengine
running.
•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforerefueling.
•Neverrefuelthemachineindoors.
•Neverstorethemachineorthefuelcontainer
wherethereisanopename,spark,orpilotlight,
suchasonawaterheateroronotherappliances.
•Neverllcontainersinsideavehicleoronatruck
ortrailerbedwithaplasticliner.Alwaysplace
containersonthegroundawayfromyourvehicle
beforelling.
•Removetheequipmentfromthetruckortrailerand
refuelitontheground.Ifthisisnotpossible,then
refuelsuchequipmentwithaportablecontainer
ratherthanfromafueldispensernozzle.
•Keepthenozzleincontactwiththerimofthefuel
tankorcontaineropeningatalltimesuntilfueling
iscomplete.
•Donotuseanozzlelockopendevice.
•Iffuelisspilledonclothing,changeclothing
immediately.
•Neveroverllthefueltank.Replacefuelcapand
tightensecurely.
Operation
•Neverrunanengineinanenclosedarea.
•Operatethemachineonlyingoodlight,keeping
awayfromholesandhiddenhazards.
•Starttheengineonlyfromtheoperatingposition.
•Besureofyourfooting,especiallywhenbacking
up.Walk,don'trun.Neveroperatethemachineon
wetgrass.Reducedfootingcouldcauseslipping.
•Slowdownanduseextracareonhillsides.Besure
totravelsidetosideonhillsides.Turfconditions
canaffectthestabilityofthemachine.Usecaution
whileoperatingthemachineneardrop-offs.
•Donotoperatethemachinewithouteitherthe
grasscatcherortheguardinplace.
•Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingor
overspeedtheengine.
•Stopthemachineonlevelgroundandshutoff
theenginebeforeleavingtheoperatingposition
foranyreason,includingemptyingthecatcheror
uncloggingthechute.
•Stopthemachineandinspectthebladeafter
strikingobjectsorifanabnormalvibrationoccurs.
Makenecessaryrepairstothemachinebefore
resumingoperation.
•Keephandsandfeetawayfromthecuttingunits.
•Lookbehindanddownbeforebackinguptobe
sureofaclearpath.
•Keeppetsandbystandersaway.
•Slowdownandusecautionwhencrossingroads
andsidewalks.Stopthebladeifyouarenot
mowing.
•Beawareofthemachinedischargedirectionand
donotpointitatanyone.
•Donotoperatethemachinewhileunderthe
inuenceofalcoholordrugs.
•Usecarewhenloadingorunloadingthemachine
intoatrailerortruck.
•Usecarewhenapproachingblindcorners,shrubs,
trees,orotherobjectsthatmayobscurevision.
MaintenanceandStorage
•Stoptheengineanddisconnectthespark-plug
wire.Waitforallmovementtostopbefore
adjusting,cleaning,orrepairingthemachine.
•Cleangrassanddebrisfromthecuttingunit,drive,
mufer,andenginetohelppreventres.Clean
upoilorfuelspills.
•Lettheenginecoolbeforestoringthemachine,
anddonotstoreitnearaame.
