machinetokeepitcleanandprotected.
PreparingtheFuelSystem
WARNING
Gasolinecanvaporizeifyoustoreitoverlong
periodsoftimeandexplodeifitcomesintocontact
withanopename.
•Donotstoregasolineoverlongperiodsoftime.
•Donotstorethemachinewithgasolineinthe
fueltankorthecarburetorinanenclosurewith
anopename.(Forexample,afurnaceora
waterheaterpilotlight.)
•Allowtheenginetocoolbeforestoringitinany
enclosure.
Emptythegasolinefromthefueltankwhenmowingforthe
lasttimebeforestoringthemachine.
1.Runtheengineuntilitstopsfromrunningoutof
gasoline.
2.Choketheengineandstartitagain.
3.Allowtheenginetorununtilitshutsoff.Whenyou
cannolongerstarttheengine,itissufcientlydry.
PreparingtheEngine
1.Whiletheengineisstillwarm,changetheoilinthe
crankcase;refertoChangingtheEngineOil(page18).
2.Removethesparkplug.
3.Usinganoilcan,addabout30ml(1oz)ofengineoil
totheenginecrankcasethroughthespark-plughole.
4.Slowlyrotatetheengineseveraltimesbypullingthe
recoil-starthandletodistributetheoilthroughoutthe
enginecrankcase.
5.Installthesparkplugbutdonotconnectthewireto
thesparkplug.
GeneralInformation
1.Cleanunderthemachine;refertoCleaningunderthe
Machine(page22).
2.Cleananydirtandchafffromthecylinder,cylinder
headns,andblowerhousing.
3.Removegrassclippings,dirt,andgrimefromthe
externalpartsoftheengine,theshrouding,andthe
topofthemowerhousing.
4.Checktheconditionoftheblade;refertoInspecting
theBlade(page20).
5.Servicetheaircleaner;refertoServicingtheAir
Cleaner(page17).
6.Tightenallnuts,bolts,andscrews.
7.Touchupallrustedorchippedpaintsurfaceswith
paintavailablefromanAuthorizedServiceDealer.
RemovingtheMachinefrom
Storage
1.Checkandtightenallfasteners.
2.Removethesparkplugandspintheenginerapidly
usingthestartertoblowouttheexcessoilfromthe
cylinder.
3.Cleanthesparkplugorreplaceitifitiscracked,
broken,oriftheelectrodesareworn.
4.Installthesparkplug;refertoServicingtheSparkPlug
(page19).
5.Performanyneededmaintenanceprocedures;referto
Maintenance(page17).
6.Fillthefuelinthefueltankwithfreshgasoline.
7.Checktheengine-oillevel.
8.Connectthewiretothesparkplug.
