•Extremelyhardknotsofwoodwillnotprocessvery
well.Shortstubsthathavenotself-fedthrough
thechippercanbepushedthroughwiththenext
branchtobechipped,otherwisesimplyclosethe
upperchute.
•Overloadingthehopperwillcausetherotorspeed
todecrease.IfyouheartheengineRPMdecreasing,
stopfeedingmaterialintothehopperuntilthe
enginehasreturnedtofullspeed(Figure15).

•Ifyoujamthemachineanddonotstoptheengine,
itcandamagethemachine.Forthisreason,itis
importantthatyouimmediatelystoptheengineif
themachinebecomesjammed,wait5minutesto
makecertaintheywheelandallmovingpartshave
cometoacompletestopandcool.Disconnect
thesparkplugwires,keepingthemawayfromthe
sparkplugstopreventaccidentalstarting.
•Neverallowprocessedmaterialtobuildupwithin
76.2mm(3in)ofthedischargechuteopening.
Movethemachineorthepileasneeded.Failureto
dosocouldresultinunnecessaryjammingofthe
machine.
•Tomoveapileofprocessedmaterial,useaspade,
rake,orlonghandletool.Neveruseyourhands
orfeet!
•Limitthelengthoflargebranchesto3feetlong
orless;longerlengthscouldcausethechipperto
slowandjam.
•Washoutthecuttingchamberaftereachuseby
sprayingwaterfromagardenhoseintothehopper
whiletheengineisrunningatfullthrottle.Do
thisforafewminutestopreventaccumulationof
matterthatcandegradethechipperperformance.
