DrainingtheFuelTank
DANGER
Incertainconditions,gasolineisextremely
ammableandhighlyexplosive.Areorexplosion
fromgasolinecanburnyouandothersandcan
damageproperty.
•Draingasolinefromthefueltankwhenthe
engineiscold.Dothisoutdoorsinanopenarea.
Wipeupanygasolinethatspills.
•Neversmokewhendraininggasoline,andstay
awayfromanopenameorwhereasparkmay
ignitethegasolinefumes.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,toensurethatthe
fueltankdrainscompletely.
2.Lowerthegrinder.
3.Stoptheengine,removethekey,andwaitforallmoving
partstostopbeforeleavingtheoperatingposition.
4.Removethebottomshield;refertoRemovingthe
BottomShield(page21).
5.Turnthefuel-shutoffvalve(Figure39)totheclosed
position.

6.Squeezetheendsofthehoseclampontheengineside
oftheshut-offvalvetogetherandslideitupthefuel
lineawayfromvalve.
7.Pullthefuellineoffthevalve.Openthefuel-shutoff
valveandallowthegasolinetodrainintoagascanor
drainpan.
Note:Nowisthebesttimetoinstallanewfuellter,
becausethefueltankisempty.RefertoReplacingthe
Low-pressureFuelFilter(page27).
8.Installthefuellineontothefuel-shutoffvalve.Slide
thehoseclampclosetothevalvetosecurethefuelline.
9.Installthebottomshield;refertoInstallingtheBottom
Shield(page21).
10.Wipeupanyspilledfuel.
Note:Thefuel-shutoffvalveisalsoaccessiblethroughthe
frame,behindthebattery(Figure40).
