SPECIFICATIONS Briggs & Castration Engine: Recoil equipped, four cycle, model 110808, type 0380-01. Output of engine: 4 hp @ 3600 rpm and 6.1 ft-lb of torque @ 2700 rpm. Displacement of engine is 11.39 cubic inches. Crankcase capacity is approximately 20 ounces of oil, Fuel Tank: Capacity of fuel tank is 1 quart Mower Housing: Die cast aluminum alloy housing has spiral grass chamber, right side discharge, and symmetrical wheel locations. Grass discharge deflector is hinged to mower housing.
SETTING UP INSTRUCTIONS Install Handles Tools Required: Wrench 1. Push ends of lower handle together and secure handle with shoulder screws and lockouts (Fig. 1}, Figure 1 2. Slide upper handle into position on outside of Sower handle and line up holes at sides of both handles. Secure upper and lower handles together with two handle bolts and knobs (Fig.2). NOTE: Handle knobs must be on inside of upper handle (Fig. 2). HANDLE KNOB \-HANDLE BOLTS UPPER HANDLE Figure 2 3.
PREPARATION BEFORE STARTING Fill Crankcase with oil Tools Required: Pliers, Clean Rag and Funnel The engine is shipped from the factory without oil in the crankcase. Therefore, before trying to start engine, oil must be added to the crankcase. IMPORTANT: Check level of oil every 5 operating hours or each time mower is used. Initially, change oil after the first 2 hours of operation; thereafter, under normal conditions, change oif after every 25 bouts of operation.
CONTROLS Throttle Control: Throttle control connects o and operates the carburetor-mounted throttle and choke. Control has four positions: STOP, SLOW, START, and FAST {Fig. 7}. ,« THROTTLE ‘ CONTROL Figure 7 Recoil Starter: Pull recoil starter handle to start engine (Fig. 8}. RECOIL Figure 8 STARTING AND STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS Note: Make sure high tension wire is installed on spark plug. 1. Move throttle control to START position before starting a cold engine {(Fig. 9).
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Rear Safety Shield A CAUTION The rear shield (Fig. 12) is a safety device; therefore, DO NOT REMOVE REAR SAFETY SHIELD FROM MOWER HOUSING. The shield protects the operator, pivots to ride over uneven turf and does not affect mobility, even when backing up. If shield is ever damaged or does not operate properly, replace it.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Place thumb against inside of pivot arm knob and fingers against outside of wheel (Fig. 14). 2. Pull pivot arm out until its locating stud disengages notch in side of mower housing; then move pivot arm 1o desired setting and release locating stud into notch in mower housing. 3. Adjust wheels to seem height-of-cut (Fig.15). REAR WHEEL FRONT WHEEL Figure 18 Using Optional Bagging Kit (Part No. 27-7820} Before installing grass bag assembly, shut engine off.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 8. To empty bag, zip open rear of bag and shake grass out. Before reinstalling bag, zip up rear of bag. A CAUTION 1f discharge chute becomes plugged with grass, proceed as follows: first, shut engine off and wait a few seconds until all moving parts stop; second pull high tension wire off spark plug; third, remove discharge chute and shake it unfit grass falls into bag; and forth, reinstall bag chute w/bag and push high tension wire onto spark plug.
MAINTENANCE Shut engine off before performing any maintenance service; furthermore, pull high tension wire off spark plug to prevent possibility of accidental starting {Fig.18}. Make sure wire does not contact plug accidentally. Figure 18 Lubricating Wheel Bearings Tools Required: Clean Rag and Grease Gun w/No. 2 General Purpose Grease.
MAINTENANCE 5. Install cover on air cleaner body and make sure cover and element form a seal. Mount air cleaner assembly on top of carburetor with dong screw. Assure that ali parts are seated in place. IMPORTANT: Do not operate engine without air cleaner element and screw mounted in place because engine damage will likely result. Changing Crankcase Oit Tools Required: Clean Rag, Open End Wrench and Shallow Oit Drain Pan. Check oit level after every 5 hours of operation or each time mower is used.
MAINTENANCE Replacing Spark Plug Tools Required: Spark Pius Socket, Spark Plug Sapping Tool and Clean Rag. Since air gap between center and side electrodes of the spark plug increases gradually during normal operation of the engine, check condition of electrodes after every 25 operating hours. Recommended spark plug is a Champion RS-8 and correct air gap is 0.030 of an inch. 1. Clean area around spark plug so foreign matter cannot fall into cylinder when spark pig is removed. 2.
MAINTENANCE Servicing Cutter Blade Tools Required: Socket or Wrench and Clean Rag. A WARNING Check cutter blade before mower is used, stored, and whenever mower is serviced. If cap screw holding blade is loose, tighten it to 45-60 fth. If blade or sail {Fig. 25} at end of blade is worn, eroded or cracked, replace it.
MAINTENANCE Cleaning Cooling System To avoid overheating and possible engine damage, clean the cooling system after every 25 hours of operation, 1. Pull high tension wire off spark plug. Make sure wire does not contact plug accidentally {Fig. 18}. 2. Clean dirt, grass and chaff from outside of cylinder and cylinder head fins. 3. Remove blower housing and clean it. Alec, remove any dirt and debris from the fan blades. intake screen and governor linkage.
MAINTENANCE Adjusting Carburetor Tools Required: Medium Blade Screwdriver The carburetor has been set at the factory, butane occasional adjustment may be required. However, do not make unnecessary carburetor adjustments because factory settings are usually correct. An adjustment may be required to compensate for differences in fuel, temperature and altitude. IMPORTANT: Before the carburetor is adjusted, check throttle control for proper aeration: refer to Adjusting Throttle/Choke Central, page 16. 1.
MAINTENANCE Preparing Mower For Storage 1, Drain gasoline from fuel tank: refer to Draining Gasoline From Fuel Tank, page. Next, start engine and let it run at slow speed until it stops because all gasoline is used. 2. Drain oil from crankcase: refer to Changing Crankcase Oil, steps 1-5, page 13. However, do not fill crankcase with oif at this time, 3. Clean carbon from internal parts of engine: refer to Cleaning Internal Parts Of Engine, page 16. 4.
