Whenthemachineisinoperation,contact
withrotatingormovingpartswillseverely
injurehandsandfeet.
Beforeadjusting,cleaning,inspecting,
troubleshooting,orrepairingthemachine,
shutofftheengineandwaitforallmoving
partstostop.Disconnectthewirefrom
thesparkplugandkeepitawayfromthe
plugtopreventsomeonefromaccidentally
startingtheengine.
Staybehindthehandleandawayfrom
theseedmixerandcuttingbladeswhile
operatingthemachine.
Keepface,hands,feet,andanyother
partofyourbodyorclothingawayfrom
concealed,moving,orrotatingparts.
1.Ifseeding,lltheseedhopperandsetthe
seedingrategauge;refertoAdjustingthe
Seeding-RateGauge(page12).
2.Adjustthecutting-bladedepthtothedesired
setting;refertoAdjustingtheCutting-Blade
Depth(page12).
3.Starttheengine.
4.SettheenginethrottletotheFASTposition.
5.Pushdownonthehandletoraisethefront
wheelsslightlyofftheground.
6.Squeezetheblade-controlbailagainstthe
handletoengagetheblades.Slowlylowerthe
frontwheelstotheground,allowingtheblades
tograduallyworkintothegrassandsoil.
7.Ifseeding,pushtheseeder-controlleverforward
tostarttheseedow.
Note:Thereisnoneedtoturnthe
seeder-controlleveroffandonforeachturn.
Theseedowslowsand/orstopswhenthe
machineisstoppedorslowedforturning.To
reduceseedloss,raisethefrontwheelsasthe
machineisturned.
Note:Themachineseedsatthesamerate
goingforwardorrearward.
Note:Ifthereisexcessivethatch,itmaybe
necessarytoremovethethatchpriortoseeding.
8.Engagetheself-propeldrivebailtobegin
operating.

Overseeding
Setthecuttingbladestobe3to6mm(1/8to1/4
inch)intotheearth.
Asseedowvariesgreatlybetweendifferentseed
types,llthehopperwithaminimalamountof
seedandrunatrialportionoftheyardtoensure
thatyouhavethedesiredseedoutput.
Foroptimalcoverage,reducetheseedowto1/2
thedesiredamountandseedtheentireyardin
onedirection,thencompleteasecondcoverage
perpendiculartotherst.
Important:Donotputdownmoreseedthan
recommendedbytheseedcompany.Overseeding
cancausethegrasstobetoothickandcauseitto
besusceptibletofungus.
Dethatching
Setthecuttingbladestobe3to6mm(1/8to1/4
inch)pastthethatchlayer,intotheearth.Operatethe
machineovertheyardwiththeseeder-controllever
turnedoff.
PowerRaking/Renovating
Tobreaknewgroundortillanexistinglawn,setthe
cuttingbladestobe6to13mm(1/4to1/2inch)into
theearth.Goforwardandbackwardoverthearea
tobeleveled,ormakemultiplepassesfromdifferent
directions.
Themachineworksbestwhenthegroundishardand
dryandismostaggressiveinbreakingupthesoilin
reverse.Ifthegroundissoftandcausestheengineto
bogdown,raisethebladesslightlyandmakeafew
passesbeforeloweringthemtothefulldepth.
