Youwillneed2peopleforthisprocedure.
1.Starttheengine.
2.Lowerthepipeloadguard.
3.Withtheenginerunning,have1personsitinthe
seatandbeginthedrillingprocess.
4.Raisethepipeloadguard.
Note:Thecamassemblyshouldnotengage.
Ifitdoesengage,thereisamalfunctioninthe
interlocksystemthatyoushouldcorrectbefore
resumingoperation.
TestingtheZap-Alert
System
DANGER
IftheZap-Alertsystemactivateswhiledrilling,
themachinewillbecomeenergized.Ifyou
stepoffoftheoperatorplatformorifsomeone
touchesthemachineorwetgroundnearthe
machineorinthebore,youortheycouldbe
electrocuted,causingseriousinjuryordeath.
•TesttheZap-Alertsystembeforedrilling.
•Deploythegroundingstakebeforedrilling.
Ensurethatthestakeisfullyinsertedinto
moistsoil.
•IftheZap-Alertistriggered:
–Stayintheseatanddonottouchthe
groundoranyotherpartofthemachine
untilthepowerhasbeenturnedoff.
Donotpourliquidsorurinatefromthe
operatorplatformontotheground.
–Stopdrilling,stopthedrilling-uidow,
andretractthedrilloutoftheground.
–Keepeveryoneawayfromthemachine.
–Keepstandingorrunningwaterand
drillinguidcontainedclosetothe
machine.Keepwateranddrillinguid
sourcesawayfromthebrokenline.
–Contacttheutilitycompanytohave
powershutofftothebrokenline.Do
notresettheZap-Alertsystemuntilthe
powerhasbeenturnedoff.
TheZap-Alertsystemisanelectricstrikesensing
deviceonthemachinethattriggersastrobelightand
audiblealarmintheeventthatthedrillbit,reamer,
orstakebreaksintoanenergizedpowerline.Inthe
eventofanelectricstrike,themachinebecomes
energized,settingoffthealarm.
TesttheZap-Alertsystembeforeusingthedrilleach
day,asfollows:
1.Removethegroundcablefromitsstorage
positionattherearofthemachine(Figure49).
2.Laythegroundingstakeatonthegroundaway
fromthemachine.Donotdrivethestakeinto
theground.
Important:Donotallowthestaketotouch
anypartofthemachine.
3.Openthefronthood;refertoOpeningtheFront
andRearHoods(page67).
4.ConnectanalligatorclipfromtheZap-Alert
testertothegroundingstudontheZap-Alert
system(Figure46andFigure47).
