SettinguptheMachinefor
Drilling
1.Usingthetravelpendant,tramthemachine
tothelocationthatyouhavepreparedforit,
ensuringthatthefrontofthemachineisthe
properdistancebackfromentrypointandthe
drillframeisinlinewiththeborepath.
2.Driveuptothelocationandmakesurethatall
utilitiesarelocatedandmarkedpriortodrilling.
3.Removetheconsolecovers.

4.Lowerthepipeloadingguard(Figure57).

DeployingtheZap-Alert
System
TheZap-Alertsystemisanelectricstrikesensing
deviceonthemachinethattriggersastrobelightand
audiblealarmintheeventthatthedrillbit,reamer,
orstakebreaksintoanenergizedpowerline.Inthe
eventofanelectricstrike,themachinebecomes
energized,settingoffthealarm.
DANGER
IftheZap-Alertsystemactivateswhile
drilling,themachine,includingtheoperators
platform,willbecomeenergized.Ifyou
stepofftheoperatorplatformorifsomeone
touchesthemachineorwetgroundnearthe
machineorinthebore,youortheycouldbe
electrocutedcausingseriousinjuryordeath.
TesttheZap-Alertsystembeforedrilling.
Deploythegroundingstakebeforedrilling.
Ensurethatthestakeisfullyinsertedinto
moistsoil.
IftheZap-Alertistriggered:
Stayintheseatanddonottouchthe
groundoranyotherpartofthemachine
untilthepowerhasbeenturnedoff.
Donotpourliquidsorurinatefromthe
operatorplatformontotheground.
Stopdrilling,stopthedrilling-uidow,
andretractthedrilloutoftheground.
Keepeveryoneawayfromthemachine,
wetgroundnearthemachineorrunning
fromthemachine,andanyopen
sourcesofwater/mudthatisinthebore
andcontactingthebrokenline.
Contacttheutilitycompanytohave
powershutofftothebrokenline.Do
notresettheZap-Alertsystemuntilthe
powerhasbeenturnedoff.
