BoringtheEntryShaft
Therststepistocreatetheentryshaft.Pushand
borethedrillbitandtherstfewpipesintotheground
atananglefrom0to16degrees(withthetracksat
ontheground)untilyoureachthedesireddepth.
Important:Drillandreaminaclockwiserotation.
Ifyouuseacounterclockwiserotation,thepipe
willdisconnectfromeachotherandmaybe
disconnectedunderground.
1.Whentheareaisclearofpeople,disablethe
exit-sidelockoutusingtheexit-side-lockout
transmitter;pushtheexit-side-lockout,reset
switchonthecontrolpanel.
2.Turnonthedrillinguidpumpswitchandallow
theuidpressuretobuildto1379to2068kPa
(200to300psi).
3.Rotatethedrillheaduntilthebitisatthe6
o’clockposition.
4.Movethecarriageforwarddrivingthebitstraight
intothegrounduntiltheentiredillhousingis
underground.
5.Continuepushingforwardandbeginrotating
thedrillspindleclockwisetoinitiatethedrilling
action.
6.Drillforwarduntilthecarriagereachestheendof
theframe,thenretractitabout6mm(1/4inch).
AddingDrillPipes
1.Alignthepipejointinthewrenchassembly.
2.Closethelowerwrench(stationarywrench)onto
therstpipe.
Note:Thedrillinguidautomaticallyshutsoff
whenyouactivatethelowerwrench.
3.Pullbackthecarriageapproximately12.7mm
(0.5inch).
Note:Thisallowsthecarriagetooatandnot
damagethepipethreads.
4.Rotatethedrillheadcounterclockwiseuntilthe
spindleiscompletelyremovedfromthepipe.
5.Spraythespindlewiththreadjointcompound,
thenreturnthedrillcarriagetotheupperend
oftheframe.
6.Rotatethecamassemblytotheclosestrowof
pipesinthepipeholder.
7.Lowerapipeintothecamassemblyandgrip
itinplace.
8.Rotatethecamassemblytowardthedrillframe,
andextendthepipegrippersuntilthepipeis
centeredoverthedrillstringandinfrontofthe
spindleonthecarriage.
9.Rotatethedrillspindleclockwiseandmovethe
carriageslowlyforwardtoinsertthespindleinto
thefemaleendofthepipe(Figure65).
Note:Tightenthejointuntilthepipeisrotating
withthespindle.
10.Movethedrillcarriageslowlydowntheframe
untilthemalethreadsonthepipeareunder
thethread-joint-compoundapplicatorandapply
thread-jointcompoundtothethreads.
11.Rotatethedrillspindleclockwiseandmovethe
carriageslowlyforwardtoinsertthemaleend
ofthepipeintothefemaleendoftheprevious
pipe.Tightenthejointuntilyoureachnomore
than2,304N∙m(1,700ft-lb).
12.Releaseandretractthepipegripper,rotatingit
allthewayoutpastthethirdrowofpipes.
Important:Ensurethatyoufullyretractthe
pipegripperandrotateitallthewayout;
otherwisethecarriagemaycollidewiththe
gripper,damagingthemachine.
13.Releasethewrenchandcontinuethedrilling
operation.
SteeringtheDrillHead
Thedrillbitisshapedlikeawedge,angledfromone
sideofthebittotheother.Whenyoupushthebit
throughthesoilwithoutrotatingit,itmovestowardthe
directionthatthewedgeispointing.Whenyourotate
thepipeanddrillhead,itboresthroughthesoilina
straightpath.

Whendrilling,acrewmemberfollowsthedrillhead
asitprogresses.Thereceiverreceivessignalsfrom
thesondeinthedrillheadidentifyingitsposition,
depth,pitch,direction,transmittertemperature,and
orientationinthesoil.Theremoteconsoleisascreen
thatremainsnearyou(thedrilloperator)toshowyou
theinformationfromthereceiverwhiledrillingsothat
youcanmakesteeringdecisions.
