BoringtheHorizontalShaft
Aftercreatingtheentryshaft,yougraduallysteer
thedrillheadupwhilepushingforward,following
theplannedborepath.Whenyoureachthedesired
depth,leveloutthedrillheadandborethehorizontal
shaft,addingpipesasyougo.Whileboring,payclose
attentiontotheinformationrelayedbacktoyouby
thecrewmemberaboutthestatusandlocationofthe
drillheadtoensurethatyouarefollowingtheplanned
path.
Important:Whiledrilling,watchthesonde
temperature.Allsondeshaveamaximum
temperatureabovewhichtheywillbedamaged.
Frictionbetweenthedrillheadandthesoil
causesthetemperaturetoraise.Toreduce
thetemperature,slowdown,decreaseforward
pressure,andincreasethedrillinguidow.If
thedrillheadisenteringasoiltypeotherthan
whatitisdesignedfor,thatcanalsoraisethe
temperature.Assessthesituationandpulloutthe
drillheadandchangeitifnecessary.
Ifyourunintoanobstruction,dothefollowing:
1.Increasetheowofthedrillinguidforafew
secondswithoutdrilling,thenattempttocontinue
drillingforward.
Thismayloosentheobstructionandallowyou
topushpastit.
2.Iftheobstructionpersists,try1ormoreofthe
followingoptions:
•Iftheobstructionisinanareawhereyou
candig,stopthedrillheadwiththeExitSide
Lockoutanddigdowntotheobstructionto
identifyitandremoveitifpossible.
•Pullthedrillheadback15m(50ft)ormore
andsteerthedrillheadtotheside,marking
anewdrillpatharoundtheobstacle.
Important:Donotsteerthedrillhead
morethan20cm(8inches)offcenterfor
every3meters(10ft)offorwardtravel.If
yousteermorethanthis,youwilldamage
thedrillpipes.
•Iftheobstructionisactuallyachangeinsoil
types,suchasazoneofrockysoil,pullthe
drillheadallthewaybackandchangetoa
drillbitappropriatefordrillingthroughthe
newsoiltype.
ExitingtheGround
Asyouapproachtheendofthebore,steerthedrill
headtotheexitpoint,keepingthesteeringlimitsin
mindasyoudoso.Beforeexitingtheground,ensure
thateveryoneisawayfromtheexitpoint.Assoonas
youbreakthrough,stopthedrilling-uidow.Extend
thedrillforwarduntiltheentiredrillheadisoutofthe
ground.
BackreamingandPullback
Afterdrillingtheinitialbore,youattachareamerto
thepipe,whichisthenconnectedtoatheproductyou
areinstalling.Thereamerisdesignedtowidenthe
bore,packthewalls,andlubricatethepassageofthe
productintothebore.
Thefollowingreamersareavailablefromyour
AuthorizedServiceDealerinvarioussizestomeet
yourneedsandsoilconditions:
•Carbidestep-wingcutter—Usethisreamerin
sandyandmediumclaysoilconditionstomixthe
drillinguidwiththesoil,makingamixturethat
owseasilyaroundtheproductbeingpulled.
•Castconepacker—Usethisreamerinsoilsthat
packeasily,suchassoftclay,peat,andloam,to
packthesidesofthebore,maintainingthebore
opening.
•Flutedreamer—Usethisreamerinhardclayand
rockysoils;itcombinesthefeaturesoftheother
2reamers.

Ifthedrillrotatesorextendswhileyouor
othersaremanuallyworkingonthedrillbitor
pipeinfrontofthemachine,theworkercould
getcaughtinthebitorpipecausingserious
injury,amputation,ordeath.
•Enabletheexit-sidelockoutonthe
exit-side-lockouttransmitterbefore
approachingthedillbitorpipewhen
attachedtothemachine.Thisdisablesthe
drillcarriageandrotarygearbox.
•Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelrywhen
workingonadrillbitorpipeattachedto
themachine.Tielonghairupandoutof
theway.
1.Usingtheexit-side-lockouttransmitter,enable
theexitsidelockout.
