WARNING
Chargingthebatteryproducesgassesthatcan
explode.
Donotsmokenearthebattery,andkeepsparksand
amesawayfromthebattery.
Important:Keepthebatteryfullycharged.Thisis
especiallyimportanttopreventbatterydamagewhen
thetemperatureisbelow32°F(0°C).
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,stoptheengine,
andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Openthefronthood.
3.Cleantheexteriorofthebatterycaseandthebattery
posts.
Note:Connecttheleadsofthebatterychargerto
batterypostsbeforeconnectingthechargertothe
electricalsource.
4.Lookatthebatteryandidentifythepositiveand
negativebatteryposts.
5.Connectthepositiveleadofthebatterychargertothe
positivebatterypost(Figure97).

Note:Thisprocedurerequires2peopletoperform.Ensure
thatthepersonmakingtheconnectionswearstheproperface
protection,protectivegloves,andclothing.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,stoptheengine,
andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Openthefronthood.
3.EnsurethatallcontrolsareintheNEUTRALposition.
4.Sitintheoperatorseatandhavetheotherpersonmake
theconnections.
Note:Ensurethatthejumperbatteryisa12-volt
battery.
Important:Ifyouareusinganothermachine
forpower,ensurethatthe2machinesarenot
touchingeachother.
5.Preparetostarttheengine;refertoStartingand
StoppingtheEngine(page47).
6.Removethecoverfromthejumppost(Figure98).
