CheckingtheCoolantLevelin

ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily
WARNING
Iftheenginehasbeenrunning,theradiatorwillbe
pressurizedandthecoolantinsidewillbehot.If
youremovethecap,coolantmaysprayout,causing
severeburns.
Donotremovetheradiatorcapwhentheengineis
hot.Allowtheenginetocoolforatleast15minutes
oruntiltheradiatorcapiscoolenoughtotouch
withoutburningyourhand.
Note:Thecoolingsystemislledwitha50/50solutionof
waterandethylene-glycolantifreeze.
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,stoptheengine,
andremovetheignitionkey.
2.Allowtheenginetocool.
3.Opentherear-accessdoor;refertoOpeningthe
Rear-AccessDoor(page65).
4.Checkthecoolantlevelbylookingatthesightgaugeat
theendoftheradiatortank(Figure107).

Checktheconditionofthecoolingsystemforleaks,damage,
dirt,andloosehosesandclamps.Clean,repair,tighten,and
replacethecomponentsasnecessary.
CheckingtheConcentrationof
theCoolant
ServiceInterval:Every1,000hours/Yearly(whichever
comesrst)—Checktheconcentration
ofthecoolantbeforethewinterseason.
Testtheconcentrationofethyleneglycol-basedantifreeze
inthecoolant.Ensurethatthecoolanthasa50%ethylene
glycoland50%watermixtureorequivalent.
Note:A50%ethyleneglycoland50%watermixturewill
protecttheengineto-37°C(-34°F)throughouttheyear.
Usingaconcentrationtester,checktheconcentrationof
thecoolantmixturetoensurethatitis50%ethyleneglycol
and50%waterorequivalent;refertothemanufacturer’s
instructionsfortesting.
