Ensurethatallpersonnelatthejobsitewear
personalprotectiveequipmentincluding
ahardhat,eyeprotection,andhearing
protection.
Keepbystandersandspectatorsawayfrom
thejobsite,includingthecompletebore
path.
Locateandexposeallelectricandgaslines
thatyouwillbecrossingbycarefulhand
digging.
EnsurethatyouusetheZap-Alertsystem
wheneveryouoperatethemachine.
Commonhazardsincludethefollowing:
Gaslines
DANGER
Drillingintoagaslinecancauseanexplosion
orre,burning,injuring,orkillingyouor
othersinthevicinityofthebreak.
Donotsmokeorhaveanysourceofame
neargaslinesorateitherendofabore
thatwillbecrossingagasline.
Keepbystandersandspectatorsaway
fromthejobsite,includingthecomplete
borepath.
Locateandexposeallgaslinesthatyou
willbecrossingbycarefulhanddigging.
Havethegascompanyturnoffthegas
toanylinesyouwillbecrossingbefore
drilling.
Usethereceivertotracktheexactposition
ofthedrillheadwhenapproachinggas
lines.
Electricalpowerlines

Drillingintoanelectricpowerlinewillcause
themachinetobecomeelectriedandmay
electrocuteyouoranybystanders.
Keepbystandersandspectatorsaway
fromthejobsite,includingthecomplete
borepath.
Locateandexposeallelectriclinesthat
youwillbecrossingbycarefulhand
digging.
Havetheelectriccompanyturnoffthe
powertoanylinesyouwillbecrossing
beforedrilling.
Usethereceivertotracktheexact
positionofthedrillheadwhen
approachingelectriclines.
Beforedrilling,setupandusethe
Zap-alertsystemwhichisdesignedto
notifyinthecaseofanelectricstrikeand
electricallyisolatethemachineoperator
fromthemachine.IftheZap-alertalarm
triggers,stopwhatyouaredoinganddo
notleavetheoperator’sposition.Refer

67)fordetailedinstructionsonusingthe
Zap-alertsystem.
