DANGER
IftheZap-alertsystemactivateswhiledrilling,
themachine,exceptfortheoperatorplatform,
willbecomeenergized.Ifyoustepoffthe
operatorplatformorifsomeonetouchesthe
machineorwetgroundnearthemachine
orinthebore,youortheonewhotouched
themachinecouldbeelectrocuted,causing
seriousinjuryordeath.
•TesttheZap-alertsystembeforedrilling.
•Deploythegroundingstakebeforedrilling.
Ensurethatthestakeisfullyinsertedinto
moistsoil.
•IftheZap-alertistriggered:
–Stayintheseatanddonottouchthe
groundoranyotherpartofthemachine
untilthepowerhasbeenturnedoff.
Donotpourliquidsorurinatefromthe
operatorplatformontotheground.
–Stopdrilling,stopthedrilling-uidow,
andretractthedrilloutoftheground.
–Keepeveryoneawayfromthemachine,
wetgroundnearthemachineorrunning
fromthemachine,andanyopen
sourcesofwater/mudthatisinthebore
andcontactingthebrokenline.
–Contacttheutilitycompanytohavethe
powershutofftothebrokenline.Do
notresettheZap-alertsystemuntilthe
powerhasbeenturnedoff.
1.Removethegroundingstakefromtheholderon
thesideoftheoperatorplatform(Figure43).

2.Movethestakedirectlyawayfromthemachine,
perpendiculartothedrillframe,anddriveitinto
thegrounduntilthehandletouchestheground.
3.Ifthegroundisdrywhereyouputthestake,
soakthegroundwithwaterbeforeusingthe
machinetoensuregoodelectricalcontact.
LoweringtheStakes
1.Movetheoperatorstationtothedesiredangle,
switchtheDRILL/DRIVEswitchtotheDRILL
position,andraisethepipeelevators,sothatthe
pipeisrestingontheelevators;refertoStarting
theFirstPipe(page60).
