SlopeSafety
Whenoperatingthemachineonaslope,theoperator
mustaccountformanyvariables,suchastheamount,
distribution,andheightoftheload;thestabilityof
theground;uneventerrainandobstacles;andthe
conditionofthebrakes.Theseandothervariables
makeitimpracticaltodesignatethemaximumangle
atwhichtheoperatorcansafelyusethemachinefor
allslopesandsituations.
Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedtolossofcontrol
androlloveraccidents,whichcanresultinsevere
injuryordeath.Theoperatorisresponsibleforsafe
slopeoperation.Operatingthemachineonanyslope
requiresextracaution.Beforeusingthemachineona
slope,theoperatormustdothefollowing:
Reviewandunderstandtheslopeinstructionsin
themanualandonthemachine.
Evaluatethesiteconditionsofthedaytodetermine
iftheslopeissafeformachineoperation.Use
commonsenseandgoodjudgmentwhen
performingthisevaluation.Changesintheterrain,
suchasmoisture,canquicklyaffecttheoperation
ofthemachineonaslope.
Walkbesidethemachinewhentrammingupand
downslopes.
Identifyhazardsatthebaseoftheslope.Do
notoperatethemachineneardropoffs,ditches,
embankments,waterorotherhazards.The
machinecouldsuddenlyrolloverifatrackgoes
overtheedgeortheedgecollapses.Keepasafe
distance(twicethewidthofthemachine)between
themachineandanyhazard.
Avoidstarting,stoppingorturningthemachineon
slopes.Avoidmakingsuddenchangesinspeedor
direction;turnslowlyandgradually.
Donotoperateamachineunderanyconditions
wheretraction,steeringorstabilityisinquestion.
Beawarethatoperatingthemachineonwet
terrain,acrossslopesordownhillmaycausethe
machinetoslideevenifthetracksarestopped.
Removeormarkobstaclessuchasditches,holes,
ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhiddenhazards.
Uneventerraincouldoverturnthemachine.
DrillingtheBore
StartingtheFirstPipe
1.Ensurethatallbystandersareawayfromthe
machineandthattheexit-sidelockoutisON.
2.Movethedrivecarriagefullydownthedrillframe
andspraythespindlethreadswiththreadjoint
compound,thenreturnthedrivecarriagetothe
upperendoftheframe(Figure43).

4.Lowertheelevatorstoloadapipeintothecam.
