5.Usingthelowerwrench(stationarywrench),
clamptheleadbar,andtightenthedrillspindle
tofull-seatthreads.
6.Doublecheckthedrillheadandbittoensure
thattheuidportsarecleanandfreefrom
obstructions.
7.Installthedrillheadontotheendoftheleadbar
asdirectedbythedrillheadmanufacturer,then
moveawayfromthefrontofthemachine.
Important:Donotpullthedrillheadintothe
pipeguide,oryoumaydamagethemachine
orthedrillhead.
BoringtheEntryShaft
Therststepinboringistocreatetheentryshaft.In
thisstep,youpushandborethedrillbitandrstfew
pipesintothegroundatananglefrom0to16degrees
(withthetracksatontheground)untilyoureachthe
desireddepthofinstallation.
Important:Drillandreaminaclockwiserotation.
Ifyouuseacounterclockwiserotation,thepipes
willdisconnectfromeachotherandmaybe
disconnectedunderground.
1.Whentheareaisclearofpeople,activatethe
exit-sidelockoutusingtheexit-side-lockout
transmitter(theOK-to-Drilllightonthe
controlpanelshouldilluminate);pressthe
exit-side-lockout,RESETswitchonthecontrol
panel.
2.Turnonthedrilling-uid-pumpswitch,andallow
theuidpressuretobuildto1,379to2,068kPa
(200to300psi).
3.Rotatethedrillheaduntilthebitisatthe6
o’clockposition.
4.Movethecarriageforward,drivingthebitstraight
intothegrounduntiltheentiredillhousingis
underground.
5.Continuepushingforward,andbeginrotating
thedrillspindleclockwisetoinitiatethedrilling
action.
6.Drillforwarduntilthecarriagereachestheendof
theframe,thenretractitabout6mm(1/4inch).
AddingDrillPipes
1.Alignthepipejointinthewrenchassembly.
2.Closethelowerwrench(stationarywrench)onto
therstpipe.
Note:Thedrillinguidwillautomatically
shutoffwhenyouactivatetheupperwrench
(makeup/breakoutwrench).
3.Pullbackthecarriageapproximately12.7mm
(0.5inch).
Note:Thiswillallowthecarriagetooat,and
willnotdamagethepipethreads.
4.Rotatethedrillheadcounterclockwiseuntilthe
spindleiscompletelyremovedfromthepipe.
5.Spraythespindlewiththreadjointcompound,
thenreturnthedrivecarriagetotheupperend
oftheframe.
6.Rotatethepipe-grippercamtotheclosestrow
ofpipesinthepipeholder.
7.Lowerapipeintothepipe-grippercam,andgrip
itinplace.
8.Rotatethepipegripperuntilthepipeiscentered
infrontofthespindleonthedrivecarriage.
9.Rotatethedrillspindleclockwiseandmovethe
carriageslowlyforwardtoinsertthespindleinto
thefemaleendofthepipe(Figure56).
Note:Tightenthejointuntilthepipeisrotating
withthespindle.
10.Movethedrivecarriageslowlydowntheframe
untilthemalethreadsonthepipeareunderthe
thread-joint-compoundapplicator,andapply
thread-jointcompoundtothethreads.
11.Rotatethedrillspindleclockwiseandmovethe
carriageslowlyforwardtoinsertthemaleendof
thepipeintothefemaleendofthepreviouspipe.
Note:Tightenthejointuntilyoureachnomore
than2,304N-m(1,700ft-lb).
12.Releaseandrotatethepipe-grippercam
clockwisetotheHOMEposition.
Important:Ensurethatyoufullyrotatethe
pipe-grippercam,orthecarriagemaycollide
withthegripper,damagingthemachine.
13.Rotatethemaincampastthefourthrowofpipe
totheHOMEposition.
SoftwareversionKornewer:Afterloadingthe
rstpipethesoftwarewillskipthecertainproximity
switchestoimproveoperatorproductivity.The
gripperswillalsofunctionwhenthepipeloadingcam
isextendedandretractedwithoutoperatorinput.
