ComponentsfortheTrencher
Usingthecorrecttrenchercomponentshelpstoincrease
thetrenchingspeedandextendingthelifeofthetrencher.

informationonpartsforyourtrencher.
SelectingtheProperChain
Itisimportanttohavethecorrectchainforthejob.The
soilconditionswilldeterminethetypeofchainthathasthe
strengthandtensionthatyouneed.Achainthatistoolight
wearsfastorbreaks;achainthatistooheavyincreasesthe
loadonthemachineandreducesthetrencherdiggingspeed;
however,aheavychainhasalongerwearlifethanalighter
chain.
Youcancongurethetrencherwithananti-backexdigging
chainthatisdesignedforharddiggingconditionsorawelded
H-platechainforextremeconditions.Thesideplatesofthe
anti-backexdiggingchainareclosetogether.Asthechain
leavesthesprocket,eachlinkcomestogetherandformsa
soliddiggingchannel.Thisactionkeepseachtoothatthe
correctdiggingangle.TheweldedH-platechainisfordigging
inthemostextremeconditions.
Important:Maintainthecorrectchaintension.Ifthe
chainistootightortooloose,thediggingefciency
decreasesandthepartswearmorequickly.Referto
CheckingtheChainTension(page18).
Note:Trencherchainsareratedbytheirtensilestrength;for
example,a34019kg(75,000lb)chaintakesaminimumof34
019kg(75,000lb)ofpulltobreakthechain.
Selectthechaintype;chooseeitheraanti-backexchainora
weldedH-platechain(Figure20andFigure21).

Themostimportantcomponentofthetrencherarethe
diggingteeth;thetypeofteeththatyouselectandthe
arrangementofteeththatyouusegreatlyaffectsthedigging
efciencyandtoothwear.

–sharkteeth
–cuppedteethandrock/frostbitcombination
–cuppedandsharkteethcombination
•Choosethetootharrangementwidth:
–152mm(6inch)
–203mm(8inch)

Thetypesofdiggingteethareasfollows:
•Cuppedteeth(Figure22)arethebestforcutting
throughlighttomediumsoil.Thecuppeddesignofthe
toothcutsthroughthesoilandthenmovesitupandout
ofthetrench.
