PositioningtheSeatforTrenching
Fastentheseatbeltandrotatetheseattothetrenching
position.
Note:Youmustbeseatedintheoperator’sseatbefore
movingthemachine;otherwise,theenginestopsin1second.
UsingtheTrencherControls
•Movetherearattachmentspeedcontrolleverforwardto
actuatethediggingchainintheforwarddirection.
•Movetheleverfurtherforwardtoincreasethechain
speed.
•Movetheleverfurtherrearwardtodecreasethechain
speed.
MovethecontroltotheNEUTRALposition(A)tostop
thechain;movethecontrolleverrearward(B)toreverse
thechaindirection.
•Tolowerthetrencherboomtothedesireddepth,push
theattachmentcontrolleverawayfromyou;toraise
thetrencherboom,pullthecontrollevertowardyou.
Whenyoureleasethecontrollever,itwillreturntothe
NEUTRALpositionautomatically.
PositioningtheBoomforTrenching
Forthebesttrenchingperformanceandthesmoothest
machineoperation,theboommustbeinthefulldown
trenchingposition(Figure26).Havingtheboominthis
positionpullsthemachinedownforbettertraction.The
grounddrivesimplypullsthetrencherteethintothefaceof
thetrench.

Whenyouraisetheboomfromthefulldownposition,the
trenchingloadpullsthemachinerearward.Thispulling
reducesthetractionandmaycausethemachinetobounce
andpullwhenthechaincontactsrootsorrocks.Therearward
pullofthetrenchingoperationalsoworksagainsttheground
drive,causingtheenginetoworkharder.
StartingaTrench
Important:Knowthelocationofallunderground
utilitiesbeforeoperatingthemachineontheworksite.
1.Ensurethatallpersonsareawayfromthemachine
beforeyoustarttheengineandwhileyouaretrenching.
2.Starttheengine;refertothetractionunitOperator’s
Manual.
3.Runtheengineat1/4throttleuntiltheenginereaches
theoperatingtemperature.
4.Movethecrumber(ifequipped)totheTransport
position(Figure27).
