Beforeeachuseordaily
1.Starttheengineandmakeatrenchabout3m(10ft)
long.
2.Stopthetrencherchainandlifttheboomoutofthe
trench.
3.Movetheboomtothehorizontalposition.

5.Measurethedistancebetweenthechainandthebottom
ofthelowerwearstrip(Figure44).
Ifthegapbetweenthelowerwearstripandthe
chainis25to38mm(1to1-1/2inch),thechain
tensioniscorrect(Figure44).
Ifthegapissmallerthat25mm(1inch),thechain
tensiontootight;refertoDecreasingtheChain
Tension(page22).
Ifthegapislargerthat38mm(1-1/2inch),the
chaintensiontooloose;refertoIncreasingthe
ChainTension(page22).
Note:Thechaintensionhasasignicantaffecton
theproductivityofthemachine;setthechaintension
aslooseaspossible.
IncreasingtheChainTension
GreaseType:Lithium-basedgrease
1.Removethetopaccesscoverplateonthetrencher
boomtoaccessthepiston(Figure45).

2.Loosenthebottom4boltsontheboomandremove
thecapfromthegreasetting.
3.Whileobservingthechaingap,pumpthegreasegun
untilthegapbetweenthewearstripandthechainis25
to38mm(1to1-1/2inches).
4.Tightenthebottom4boltsontheboom.
5.Installthetopaccesscoverplate.
DecreasingtheChainTension
1.Removethetopaccesscoverplateonthetrencher
boomtoaccessthepiston(Figure45).
2.Loosenthebottom4boltsontheboomandremove
thecapfromthegreasetting.
3.Slowlyrotatethebleedplugcounterclockwise2or3
revolutions,andallowthegreasetoowfromaround
theplug.
4.Whenyouachievea25to38mm(1to1-1/5inch)gap
betweenthechainandthewearstrip,tightentheplug
5.Tightenthebottom4boltsontheboom.
6.Installthetopaccesscoverplate.
