Setup 2 Important: Remove and discard the protective plastic sheet that covers the engine. Installing the Recoil-starter Rope in the Rope Guide 1 No Parts Required Unfolding the Handle Procedure No Parts Required Important: To start the engine safely and easily whenever you use the machine, install the recoil-starter rope in the rope guide. Procedure Hold the blade-control bar to the upper handle and pull the recoil-starter rope through the rope guide on the handle (Figure 4).

Adjusting the Cutting Height WARNING 1 Adjusting the cutting height may bring you into contact with the moving blade, causing serious injury. • Stop the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. G020143 • Do not put your fingers under the housing when adjusting the cutting height. Figure 7 1. 1 cm (1/2 inch) CAUTION 3. Install the fuel tank cap and tighten it securely by hand. If the engine has been running, the muffler will be hot and can severely burn you.

To disengage the self-propel drive, release the self-propel drive bar. Note: The maximum self-propel ground speed is fixed. To reduce the ground speed, increase the space between the self-propel drive bar and the handle. 2. Lift up the rear deflector and hold it (Figure 16). WARNING A worn grass bag could allow small stones and other similar debris to be thrown in the operator's or bystanders’ direction and result in serious personal injury or death to the operator or bystanders. Check the grass bag frequently. If it is damaged, install a new Toro replacement bag. WARNING The blade is sharp; contacting the blade can result in serious personal injury.

• Avoid striking solid objects with the blade. Never • • • deliberately mow over any object. If the machine strikes an object or starts to vibrate, immediately stop the engine, disconnect the wire from the spark plug, and examine the machine for damage. For best performance, install a new blade before the cutting season begins. Replace the blade when necessary with a Toro replacement blade. Cutting Grass • Cut only about a third of the grass blade at a time.

Maintenance Note: Determine the left and right sides of the machine from the normal operating position. Recommended Maintenance Schedule(s) Maintenance Service Interval Maintenance Procedure After the first 5 hours • Change the engine oil. Before each use or daily • Check the engine oil level. • Ensure that the engine stops within 3 seconds after releasing the blade control bar. • Clean grass clippings and dirt from under the mower.

Replacing the Blade Service Interval: Yearly Important: You will need a torque wrench to install the blade properly. If you do not have a torque wrench or are uncomfortable performing this procedure, contact an Authorized Service Dealer. Figure 23 Examine the blade whenever you run out of gasoline. If the blade is damaged or cracked, replace it immediately. If the blade edge is dull or nicked, have it sharpened or replace it. 2. Plug the charger in to a wall outlet.

6. Use a torque wrench to tighten the blade bolt to 82 N-m (60 ft-lb). WARNING The mower may dislodge material from under the mower housing. Important: A bolt torqued to 82 N-m (60 ft-lb) is very tight. While holding the blade with a block of wood, put your weight behind the ratchet or wrench and tighten the bolt securely. This bolt is very difficult to overtighten. • Wear eye protection. • Stay in the operating position (behind the handle). • Do not allow bystanders in the area.

Storage Store the mower in a cool, clean, dry place. 1 Preparing the Mower for Storage WARNING Gasoline vapors can explode. • Do not store gasoline more than 30 days. On the last refueling of the year, add fuel stabilizer to the fuel as directed by the engine manufacturer. 2. Move the handle forward as shown in Figure 29. 2.

Troubleshooting Problem The engine does not start. Possible Cause 1. The wire is not connected to the spark plug. 1. Connect the wire to the spark plug. 2. The fuel cap vent hole is plugged. 2. Clean the fuel cap vent hole or replace the fuel cap. 3. Check the spark plug and adjust the gap if necessary. Replace the spark plug if it is pitted, fouled, or cracked. 4. Drain and/or fill the fuel tank with fresh gasoline. If the problem persists, contact an Authorized Service Dealer. 3.
