Subject: Support bearing may allow Cooling Fan to move towards radiator
Some of the units listed above may have an insufficient press fit between the bearing and
hub that support the engine cooling fan. This may allow the fan to move towards the
radiator and create belt misalignment. The design of this assembly now includes a
capscrew to assist the press fit in retaining the parts in position. The conversion parts and
installation instructions for the improved design are listed below.
If you notice the issue identified above during the normal warranty time frame specified in
your Owners’ Manual, contact the local Toro distributor in your area for assistance.
FAN HUB INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
for Groundsmaster 3000 series units
Parts Needed=one 98-3578 Bearing, one 3234-25 Capscrew, and one 3256-24 Washer
1. Remove Retaining Ring and press original Bearing out of large Fan Hub.
2. Press Bearing out of small Fan Hub and discard Bearing.
3. Install replacement Bearing (98-3578) and Retaining Ring into small Fan Hub.
4. Install the Bearing and small Fan Hub into the large Fan Hub until the shaft is flush.
5. Install Capscrew (3234-25) and Flat Washer (3256-24). Torque to 20 ft-lbs (2.8 Kgm).
6. Install Fan Hub Assembly and tighten mounting fasteners to 20 ft-lbs (2.8 Kgm).
7. Install all remaining parts removed during disassembly.
8. Adjust the Radiator Shroud to ensure there is adequate fan clearance on all sides.
