Subject:
Replacement parking brake pads and adjustable linkage now available
Situation:
Parking brake pads are subject to wear and require periodic replacement. Previously, brake
pads for the GM7200 models were only available as part of the caliper assembly. Toro is now
offering replacement brake pads separately from the caliper. The new pads incorporate a harder
friction material to support increased service life. In addition, the parking brake linkage system
has been redesigned for 2011 to provide adjustment to account for pad wear. The adjustable
brake linkage can be retrofitted to older traction units.
Instructions:
If parking brake pads require replacement, install the Replacement Brake Pad Service Kit (120-
0015). See Figure 1 for base adjustment. The distance of 7.1” (18.03 cm) is the expected distance
when new brake pads are installed. This distance will increase as the parking brake pads wear.
The important dimensions are the spring length settings. Spring length should be set to 3.5” (8.89
cm) when the parking brake is off. When the parking brake is set correctly and the brake is applied,
the spring will be compressed to a 3.0” (7.62 cm) length (0.5” (1.27 cm) of compression).
