Subject: Idler Pulley Carriage Bolt disengages from adjusting slot
Due variations in belt length and manufacturing tolerances, a properly adjusted deck belt
may position the pulley’s carriage bolt in, or at the edge of the “keyhole” of the slot and
allow the assembly to disengage from the slot during operation. An improved pulley
fastening assembly with a special Hold Down Nut is available to prevent this condition on
the units identified above. Idler Pulley Kit (93-4699) is available through your local Toro
distributor for this purpose. Instructions for installation are included below.
1. Remove Lock Nut from Eye Bolt and retain for later use.
2. Remove and discard Lock Nut and Carriage Bolt in Idler Pulley (not illustrated).
3. Remove and discard Strap connecting Idler Pulley and Tension Spring.
4. Slide Hold Down Nut into cavity below “keyhole” slot positioning the chamfered edges of
Nut upward against sides of Keyhole Bracket.
5. Complete the Idler Pulley assembly as shown below using the Pulley and Spacer from the
original assembly and the improved parts (identified with part numbers). Hand tighten the
assembly into the threaded hole of Hold Down Nut (keep loose to allow adjustment).
6. Attach Spring to Strap and Eyebolt and install Lock Nut.
7. Position Belt around Idler Pulley and tighten Lock Nut on Eye Bolt until outside length of
Spring measures 4-
