CheckingforaBentBlade
1.Positionthemachineonalevelsurface.Raise
thecuttingunit,engagetheparkingbrake,put
thetractionpedalinneutral,putthePTOleverin
theOffposition,shutofftheengine,andremove
theignitionkey.Blockthecuttingunittoprevent
itfromaccidentallyfalling.
2.Rotatethebladeuntiltheendsfaceforward
andbackward.Measurefromtheinsideofthe
cuttingunittothecuttingedgeatthefrontofthe
blade(Figure27),andrememberthisdimension.

RemovingandInstalling
theBlade(s)
Theblademustbereplacedifasolidobjectishit,
thebladeisout-of-balance,worn,orbent.Always
usegenuineT ororeplacementbladestoensure
safetyandoptimumperformance.Donotuseblades
madebyothermanufacturersbecausetheycouldbe
dangerous.
1.Raisethecuttingunittothehighestposition,
engagetheparkingbrake,shutofftheengine,
andremovetheignitionkey.Blockthecutting
unittopreventitfromaccidentallyfalling.
2.Grasptheendofthebladeusingaragorthickly
paddedglove.Removethebladebolt,anti-scalp
cup,andbladefromthespindleshaft(Figure
28).

Tightenthebladeboltto115to149N·m(85to
110ft-lb).
Important:Thecurvedpartoftheblade
mustbepointingtowardtheinsideofthe
cuttingunittoensurepropercutting.
InspectingandSharpening
theBlade(s)
DANGER
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrowntowardyou
orbystanders,resultinginseriouspersonal
injuryordeath.
Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
Donottrytostraightenabladethatisbent.
Donotweldabrokenorcrackedblade.
Replaceawornordamagedbladewitha
newTorobladetoensurecontinuedsafety
certicationoftheproduct.
Boththecuttingedgesandthesail,whichisthe
turnedupportionoppositethecuttingedge,contribute
toagoodquality-of-cut.Thesailisimportantbecause
itpullsgrassupstraight,therebyproducinganeven
cut.However,thesailwillgraduallyweardownduring
operation,andthisconditionisnormal.Asthesail
wearsdown,thequality-of-cutwilldegrade,although
thecuttingedgesaresharp.Thecuttingedgeofthe
blademustbesharpsothatthegrassiscutrather
thantorn.Adullcuttingedgeisevidentwhenthetips
ofthegrassappearbrownandshredded.Sharpen
thecuttingedgestocorrectthiscondition.
